Also state interschools is at Perisher next week. There will be some areas you should avoid. Once the schedule is released I’ll share it on here. @rocketboy ;)

Oh no. One of the benefits of being a Hotham rider is you avoid interschools.

Perisher is big enough so you can avoid it. Just need to be aware of the affected runs and lifts each day.

Perfect thanks, according to the trail map they grade Kamikaze as a Double Black, however it doesn't look that steep or treacherous from this angle.

It gets moguled very quickly and is often icy. A bit overrated I think. Like Olympic a couple of big nasty moguls then a run out. Outer limits and Rock Gardens are nicer.

My care factor on this issue is zero - when IS is held out of school holidays. My beef is how holding mass events during school holidays basically overwelms the resort for every other family - most of whom are paying full freight.

luckily sun valley run down from the corner through the guts of X course is not so good this year. So it won't matter that much. Last year was the perfect pitch from mid June and was skiable nearly every day until the machines arrived one day to wreck the joint. I guess they will be starting today or tomorrow if they are going to get it built by next week. They have enough snow now.

Well all the money I have invested in this sport has paid off today.

For today’s lesson we visited Mt Perisher for the first time. I must say I was a little nervous. But once we arrived it evaporated.

We made our way over and first ride up to Mt P was the double chair. Followed by the International T-Bar then Eyre. The Alpine Eyre looked super busy. As I was on a lesson did not have time to stop for the Carrot Cake ;) or a burger.

We did lots of laps between the various lifts, snow conditions still fantastic, slightly down on yesterday but the level of enjoyment was even better than yesterday. Mt P is fantastic well worth the wait.

We made our way back and just had enough time to do two laps of the Sun Valley T-Bar.

Afternoon by myself, just laps of both sides of Leichhardt Chairlift.

I started this ski journey in 2014 and each year the number of days have increased. It’s pretty tough starting out at 37. But so glad I have stuck with it.

Rating for today, its another 10/10.

I dont care that much about IS as an event ,it has little impact on me with the exception of 2 things...................
    1) The constant inane chatter by the parents of these precious little racers that seems to be nothing more than a dick/tit (depends on sex of the parent) measuring contest by rogue field mice.
    2) The heightened level of the sense of entitlement these people bring with them is quite seriously ,sickening.

Both 1 and 2 make travel on lifts more than tedious if I forget my earphones and sometimes the stupidity the sense of entitlement brings on the actual snow is fair dinkum amazing sometimes.

According to my dashboard, @Normo is currently night skiing, including a lap of carpet4 :D:D:D I believe in many years and millions and millions of vertical metres this may be a first;)

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks;) I hope @Normo and the grandkids are enjoying themselves:)

Alpine the dark side of snowboarding
Some yes some no, but it's the same in all kids sports these days, how many kids do you know at "elite" soccer schools blah blah...... Sure skiing is a little more expensive, but wanker parents are wanker parents regardless of the sport.
I'm not sure when it became a 'thing' that all kids in sport are on some sort of olympic pathway, but I sure hope it becomes NOT a 'thing' into the future.
My kid is involved in ski racing, but as a way to make her a good competent skier. In all the time she has raced, I have observed ONE and ONE only kid who might make the grade at a world level, and he has bailed on skiing and now snowboards. Truly no one else has that special K. edit: I don't watch the soft disciplines Moguls SKierX etc, but in Alpine we really don't stand a chance.
I'm not sure why any parent, would expect a coach who makes a living from coaching their child, to be honest about their childs prospects, when that honesty would most likely would wreck their income stream.

when person a was in primary school a couple of parents were very ambitious for their kids
our teacher was a German woman, also an Austrian-trained instructor
she made it very clear that these kids could not possibly expect to compete against Europeans who lived a short drive from those mountains
the parents still signed up the kids for winter sports club, drove down every weekend for a while
I suspect the kids finally got sick of it

Question for the brains trust... how do I get older kid to hypertrail by 9.15am on Sunday morning?

From a casual racing family with no illusions of olypmic glory. This child will be racing on @Nidecker daughter's second hand skis.

They will open lifts early for competitors. But I’d walk over to the duplex or whatever the next t along is called, up there, up Liechardt, Mt P chair or Sun T across to International. It’s even an ok walk/skate to Leichardt, which opens at 8:30.

From a mum of 10yrs interschools experience ;) Kid now at Uni, no Olympics but years of fun.

Heard a buzz that from next week, Guthega Inn will no longer be open for lunch unless your staying there. I realise Nick can be difficult (ok, he reminds me of Basil Fawlty) but surely even he wouldn't kill that cash stream off?

I had a chat with him at lunch about a month ago. He did mention lunch is hard work for him and was thinking of not doing it. He should get someone else to run it and put his feet up. I'd be happy with a beer and limited menu.

Menu is pretty limited as it is. Small portions, overpriced, shite service, average food. If it wasn't for those fantastic views you wouldn't bother.

Interject with stories about Bourke Primary School training on sand hills funded by Indigenous Skiing grants as part of Tony Abbotts special ministry program, mention how wonderfully inclusive the Interschools skiing is.

8yrs of Interschools ...... we had a lot of fun and met some awesome people who remain friends to this day.

My daughter was on the same team as the daughter of a notorious Interschools arsehole. We ended up at Sun Peaks at the same time one year. I suggested to him that my daughter and his could spend a couple of days skiing together. Nope. She was locked into race training for the whole day for the entire fortnight. I think the only run she saw was OSV.

    She no longer skis.

    don't blame them really.
they have a very cool little boutique Inn.
If they don't need to take it to next level and dish it out to all comers then why not just provide best service to the paying guests with hell of a lot less stress.
personally I think it's great, as I never do lunch there and I think it may reduce the traffic on a stressed lifting system around the late morning / lunchtime period.
