sadly those days are over. the gurl not doing state wanting to focus on year 12. works for me too all of a sudden with what is now up coming on my plate.
he invited us in one night , when he had closed end of season, to help drain the kegs / lines. was pretty good then iirc
I don't think their lunch was ever supposed to become a "fixture". It started as pretty much just Guthega people and a few in the know and, like everything in the mountains these days, the exponential growth has damaged the experience.
as you know there is a commercial kitchen down at the ski centre sitting idle , ready for some-one to tee-off . depends on the co$t of the lea$e, will be the killer blow.
The view from the deck at the Burning Log in Guthega is pretty awesome, too. At least the coffee there is ok.
Indeed. Need to cut in an easier access but the balcony is massive and the centre under utilised. Tweak up Burning log with a bigger balcony and craft beers on tap.
May also need snowmaking to cope with increased traffic it melts out pretty quickly down near the carpark load area.
Oh yes. I recall being start marshall at one state event and standing my ground against a Sydney private school mum whose little future Olympian missed her start. Made her wait until the end as per the rules.
We were lucky with the timing last year, having Nats at P. And they kindly put all the div 1 events on the weekend to lessen the impact.
I remember it well. one of your own if it was same incident. tho there are many similar. sport parents who forget it is meant to be fun.
So true, my 15 year old does IS to get out of school and I have an excuse to ski. It helped to make him a better skier. He's had absolutely no training/lessons etc like most private school kids and he still gets in the top 20 for Alpine racing.
Jindy central has in the last couple of years brought in a snow sports policy. It only allows recognised elite athletes to do the season long programs and miss school. Kids need to be recognised by SSA or NSWIS. Sure did upset some POFOs who promptly moved their mediocre athletes to SMGS. There’s one particularly vocal one on PSR
Great day with virtually no lift lines. Longest was about 10 mins at the Ridge chair before lunch. Guthega was so cruisy after lunch with multiple laps off the Freedom Chair with hardly anyone in the queue.
There is someone ready to tee off...... keep an eye out for a 2020 reopening. . Discussions have taken place. Just might get a start although passing trade will be the challenge. I hope it does open again and is successful.
Yep, this is us too. Today we skiied and made them go to school! Unlucky for them, was a stunning day. Cheers to friends made at IS @zac150
Nice morning on Mt Perisher, last lesson today on my own for next few days before my return home at least I have the September trip to look forward to. Today was generally a repeat of yesterday lots of runs on Mt P with addition of some Tower runs. We also navigate our way through the moguls that has formed in some areas of Mt P to add some additional skills as I am not a fan of the bumpy conditions. Alpine Eyre seemed less busy than yesterday but still plenty of customers. One day I will make my way back for a burger. Sun Valley was my favourite today. We finished the lesson with some laps of the T-Bar condition were very good. Afternoon was spent lapping The Cleft at the Leichhardt Quad pretty much had the run to myself, chair wasn’t that busy. Not sure what tomorrow will bring. Probably not Mt. P at least not this trip
kewl. All agree the place needs a bit more life in it. hope Vail go easy on them so they can get on their feet and make a reasonable crack at it. same goes with SMBC , I see them running banner on the cams
Sounds like you’ve had a dream run, hope the good conditions continue and crowds stay away. Very envious.
Enjoy. Was there 2 weeks ago and not likely to return this season due to partner illness. But to help us get over the vile hideousness of going back to work, we both have put in leave requests for next year which were approved and accomodation already booked. 12 months is nt that long is it?
Hitting up the features off the North P t-bar Also I’ve heard on the rumour mill he might have cut through the trees before dropping down the wine glass chutes on the way over
Any truth to the rumour that the Front Valley Slopestyle Park has been rebuilt today because @Normo will be lapping Sturt T tomorrow and sending it on those big features?
I worked at Guthega Inn in 94 95 and started the lunches. The first year was prior Perisher taking over. The reason why we did it it was because the new owner MO wanted more people coming to the Hotel to see how good it was after she renovated the Bar and Restauarant area.We started with 5 buck lunches pretty average chicken wings and hot dogs but we had an espresso coffee machine as well.We started with 10 covers in the 1st week 2 weeks later we did 100 in a day.People flocked there and all the staff from Blue Cow went there for lunch ie the dudes that worked at the snowmaking and Cat shed down the road near the Burning Log bookings for the next year went nuts.85% booked out accom for next season. Jamie Packer came over and was livid and banned his staff wearing Perisher uniforms in the Pub.
And Karl Gunther came in every night and had 1 and 1 1 Jaggy and 1 VB man is a legend in Aussie Ski History.
Has anyone seen Karl skiing - or at the GSC lodge - this season? I've only been over to Guthega a couple of days, but they were nice days, and I'd have normally (from experience of skiing the last 30 or so seasons there) expected to see him on the hill. I only saw and spoke to him briefly one day last year and he seemed to be doing ok, but he's not young anymore...
I have not been to Guthega for about 5 years but I bumped into him at Thredbo of all places he was picking up some new Rossi skis.Had a chat and yes is getting on but he said he still puts in a few turns. That was 2016 IIRC
Wind is our friend. Heaps of windblown into inter, Eyre and sun valley. Sun valley under Olympic skiing beautifully
Is it just me or do they push the Epic pass earlier and earlier every year? 2020 now available for $829.
Hi all, Further to my earlier questions re driving sMelbourne to Bullocks Flat this weekend and with the Alpine Way still closed I need some sage advice please. Our accom in Corryong have graciously refunded the fee and have been super upfront and helpful - kudos. I've got two options (I think): 1. Drive to Tumut on Saturday and spend the night there, and on to Bullocks on Sunday morning 2. Drive to Bombala via East Gippsland, spend the night there and then on to Bullocks In total both drives take about the same time so that evens out. I've never been to either Tumut or Bombala so happy to visit either, however i'm not sure about the road from Tumut (B72) across the mountains. I'd like to see that scenery if it's worthwhile. Any response greatly appreciated as I need to hustle and book accom. Thanks
Tumut to bullocks is about 2.5-3hr drive. It's a nice drive but not super speccy. It's relatively rolling plains type scenery up above the snow line. Good cover up there at the moment.
