It’s NSW state, or northern states as they’ve renamed it. The events get bigger every year, more kids, more events.

Our ACT interschool kids just have to get in the top 10 from the ACT, then they go straight to Nationals. I feel for the Nthn NSW parents having to make 2/3 trips for ski racing.

That’s changing. In I think 2021, ACT and Qld will have to join this week. Right now it’s optional. Hence the name change.

There’s too many kids, nationals would be ginormous or they would have only take say the top 3. Which makes it too elitist.

Heck Lady P , Flying under the radar just hasn't worked for you, so I'm looking for a jacket to fit you with a big target on the back and "sock it to me" on the front.
Hope Smigs Pub has the right cure for the leg

Hope you are OK tomorrow morning LP?
Skiing back from Blue Cow to Smiggs this arvo was very "different" as the visibility was nearly zero. We had to search for trail poles at times, particularly along Winter's Way, with the odd snow drift jumping out in front of you at the last minute to keep it interesting. It was the slowest skiing I have ever done. Once back at Smiggs I skied Burke at speed for giggles, remembering how an Instructor once told me blindfolded skiing was very good for you, allowing your legs to feel the surface. It was nice, though one run was enough to prove the point!

Great skiing this morning with one exception. Now I am the first to tip my hat as far as the good work done by staff and lifty's but today 1 crew dropped the ball. Down at Interceptor they set things up badly ,singles line was actually twice as wide as the group line. There was a nice young redcoat down there this morning and at about 9.02 I suggested that this setup should be changed before the Smiggs crowd arrived ,not interested was the polite reply. About 20 minutes later with the crowd swelling again the suggestion was made ,again to no avail. The singles line was pointless.
Next trip down the hill found an even bigger crowd ,nothing like a Ridge crowd , and there was our favourite redcoat acting as traffic cop trying to sort singles from amongst groups. I hope the lesson is not lost on our intrepid young redcoat "fail to prepare is preparing to fail ".

This afternoon's almost zero visibility cost me a new pair of poles after snapping one on a buried rock. OK ,might have happened on a clear day but I am blaming the bad light.

Thanks @fenrir , @Paperboy and everyone. Yes, the skier was very contrite! The good news is it wasn’t my knee, and the doctor at the very busy Perisher Medical Centre thought it was only a Grade 1 or 2 strain which should get better within a month or so. After offering me a set of crutches, she surprisingly said I might be able to ski again in a few days. I just love those “see how you go” doctors.

    Yes. Some very nice Schnapps!

    That's terrible. :(

On the other hand I had a great day! Because it was windy with light snow I decided to spend the first half of the morning with my boots "undone" (loose) to practise posture - it worked quite well and I only did them up when I went down Parachute which for the first time this season had decent cover. I actually did ski down Pretty Valley a couple of times, for the first time in ages, but that was also because it was nice and flat with the top buckles and straps loose to get the hang of it- in fact the only time I fell over today was when I was making my way over to Pretty Valley from the top of the Quad Express (just a little sideways fall).

Guthega was lovely, skied there most of the morning before skiing back to Perisher for lunch. Then I decided to ski back to Blue Cow, best decision I made. After I went up Interceptor Quad and down the access trail, I decided to ski Pleasant Valley. Here's a pic of the unload area (at 1:51PM):

And here's a pic of the run:

Since I hadn't actually skied that run in weeks, I kept accidentally going off-trail. At one point I tried to follow some other skiers but that didn't work too well because they went slower than a turtle, and then stopped. Nevertheless I kept my skies together and body facing down the hill, and I got to the bottom without much trouble. The practise I did earlier in the day with the top buckles & straps undone definitely helped. Then I went over to Blue Cow and skied on the Terminal Quad's runs for a bit before retiring for the day.

Seems to be belting down at Perisher. Should be fun again in the morning - on the roads and on the hill.

It was Wilson's Valley when I got there around 7:10ish. Once again some people were driving with chains still on when leaving - one person had driven all the way down to Wilson's Valley (about 13kms from Perisher) and was pulled over in the chain bay about to take off the chains! Please people check RMS website here, take chains off in carpark before leaving if it says "road open". On the plus side I didn't see anyone in the ditch, no one was speeding when I left either.

It's good for practise, I definitely wouldn't recommend it to beginners (and the heel strap was always done up of course).

Windy again tonight (in Smiggins) - sounds about the same strength as last night. Also it is on the cusp between r**n and not; there is some rime building up on our windward windows but there isn’t any snow settling on railings or the cars in the carpark that I can see. From the headlights of a couple of cars headed down the hill from Perisher in the last few minutes the road seems to be shiny/wet too. So there is definitely stuff blowing around but not the sort of stuff we’d prefer.

Oh yeah I saw that! I was going to take a photo (but couldn't be assed)... it was pretty clearly identifiable as a grey military style jet. Interesting that the Reddit vid is on the Mt P triple because I saw it from over at Nth Perisher/Interceptor (but not as close as the video).

Saw it as well ,not the first time that a airplane of that size has buzzed the hill either. In previous years an older plane has occasionally done a few flybys before disappearing again.

Chains for those that need them from Prussian but no body enforcing it.
1c in the carpark ,low cloud so low visibility ,pretty damn windy and if I am generous there is a wintery mix falling ,pretty generous. Hard to be sure though due to heaps of windblown hitting car.
Doesn't look very enticing right now.

On the drive up there is slush on the road above 1650m. Very sensitive to altitude. At Smigs it is slush, in Perisher carpark definite snow rather than slush. Snowing heavily in the carpark now 0C. Up above 1800m should be better snow. However, it is extremely windy and low visibility.

Key role for C17 is humanitarian and disaster aid provision. It can get a lot of useful stuff a long way into a stuffed or poor aerodrome.

Had to be one crap day for state champs this week. Hopefully cold air arrives tonight before all the moisture finishes. GFS is not overly exciting on the moisture hanging around tonight though. Then Friday could be bulletproof if cold temps eventuate as forecasted

They need an engineering competition to design a better snow stake. A round one or one with a large slot up the centre to allow the snow to blow through it would surely make for a better reading. This looks to be a wind blown spot with consistent prevailing winds. Still looking at today's cam pix it does look enticing for a wet snow play day. Good for boards hey!
