Surely they will move it somewhere else now that we have decent snow? Have Sunday booked in hope it will be somewhere decent. Tomorrow will be a bit of touring just for the serenity :)

Yes but you said elsewhere that booking are way down. So how can it be busy?

Be careful. Did you ski today and test out the base. It's was not your normal porridge. But last night and tonight should freeze it and largely remove the risk of the snow pack collapsing into the gellato blocks. Otherwise enjoy - there's stack of snow.

Temperature gauge is showing -5 here at Smiggs (again for those following at home and following my updates I’m really not sure how accurate it is so take it with a grain of salt) and BOM saying -6.5 up the valley. Going to be bulletproof tomorrow morning my goodness

Spectacular photos thanks everyone, compared to a grey day here in Sydney at the desk.

    Jealousy rating = 9.5/10.

Thanks everyone for the info regarding the Skitube.

I’ve also got First Tracks booked tomorrow, but I can’t find any detailed information on the Perisher website regarding what lifts & runs are included. All the website says is ‘selected lifts’ in Perisher Valley.
I don’t really know where to even turn up to for First Tracks at the moment.

The joys of going to a different mountain that you are not used to

Back from perisher after a week there with family. After missing Monday due to late arrival and being stuck below the road carnage that occurred up the mountain because I took wrong turn from Dalgety (there only are two bloody roads there!) and a miserable Tuesday with large crowds everywhere, we had a really good trip. Starting away from Front valley was really good and loved the runs around Blue cow, having missed roller coaster and outer limit in our only other trip to Perisher. I really like the long and varied runs you can get around there, especially with Guthega opening, like all the way from the top of guthega down roller coaster. We all preferred Thredbo to Perisher last year, but with days like today I think I see why others favour Perisher. I think if you think about smiggins and blue cow and guthega, rather than just front valley, it makes Perisher a much less heaving and soulless place.

I started to think about the limits of ski resorts on those first two days, like they're just some amusement park for adults as lots of us silly crowds with skis dangling through the air get carried and dumped before shoving amongst crowds to get back on the lift. Sort of a luxury more than a sport. And the shmick procession of cars and luxury ski parade and outfits up the cleared road towards the artificial snowfields. And it really is all that. But just the chair lift from the bottom of upper limit, the staggering size of the mountains makes it something singular beyond all the corporate interests that are at the heart of the resort operations. It's a privilege anyway that we're collectively lucky to enjoy, particularly at these times. I never thought I'd ski, it was an innocuous trip to Selwyn two years ago that started it and it's been an obsession since. This was our 5th ski trip, and becoming more seasoned now. I'd actually had enough skiing for the first time after four days at Perisher. Not so much about the thrill of snow and the slice of the ski through a turn anymore, but now the pleasure of a really hard scratch of the shins after taking the boots off, the early morning drive in from Dalgety across the rolling hills, the drive home through Cooma region, soft colours of the hills against the fading sun, family together and out the door at 7:15 (with a fair bit of grumbling). I like that it breaks in your tolerance of winter, and that it pulls you away from the ordinary routine. We'd been stuffed with technology these past few months, going less places, getting up later, dragging. I like just looking at the weather forecasts and on this massive continent there's this one tiny blip of snow to fall. It feels sort of miraculous that Australia, such a dry and relatively flat continent, has ski fields and, in these times, we're still able to ski. So it's a very selfish and privileged pursuit, but I really like it.

No photos today, too impatient. But you've all taken better photos of things I thought would make good ones. Look forward to seeing more of them. Thanks for all the advice over the past few days.

Love all your reports & pictures everyone.
I really enjoy reading & looking at the pics.
Very unhappy that I wont experience all that this year. Driving from QLD to pick up the young fella in Liverpool has now vindicated my decision a couple of weeks ago not to go.
I was really having a hard time reconciling that decision. I think people need to rely on their instincts in what they do for quite a while to come & make the right decision for themselves & their family.
For those that are up there, enjoy, its a beautiful place!

    No more restrictions

Woohoo! After a whopping 70cm of fresh snow, pass holders are no longer required to make access reservations to visit Perisher.

An incredible natural snowfall has allowed the Perisher team to open additional lifts and terrain with all four resort areas now open. We are excited to announce that guests with an Epic Australia Pass, Epic Pass or Epic Military Pass are no longer required to make pass access reservations to visit Perisher.

As we continue to monitor COVID-19 in Australia and align with public health recommendations, we may have to re-introduce pass holder access reservations at a later date if it is deemed necessary to keep our employees, guests and communities safe. To help us keep the resort safe, guests are requested to stay home if they are not feeling well or are considered high risk, and to practice good hygiene and maintain physical distance while at the resort.

For guests without an Epic Australia Pass, Epic Pass or Epic Military Pass, lift tickets need to be purchased in advance. Lift tickets for the coming weeks will be released progressively starting next week.

We thank you for your patience as we work through this challenging time.

Thank goodness for that. Let’s see how busy next weekend is! Meanwhile car park at Smiggins is only one third full today.

Smiggins has been just top notch this morning. Blanchy’s was deserted when we arrived around 8.35, apart from one figure who waved merrily at me from the t bar. Got a chance to chat briefly with @Jasper Schwarz a short time later.

Blanchy’s was groomed corduroy heaven - one of the most underrated runs in Perisher - we ripped down. Bear Flat was groomed as well and just deserted.

We make our "debut" Sunday week. Staying Sunday to Sunday.
I wouldn't call what I do as ski. I'm sort of like Buzz lightyear, I flail around with no sort of style, trying to avoid falling over and crashing.

I'm hoping to improve, do less flailing and get more style.
