I actually saw one of them today ,rare as unicorns I thought :D ,doing his own thing down one side of Eyre making nice little short turns and using a fresh canvas to best advantage repeatedly ,was good to see.

On a different note ,went and got fuel not long back and got pulled over by the constabulary who started to lecture me about driving with high beam into oncoming traffic. Wouldnt let me get a word in ,asked for my licence and just as I gave it to him there was no oncoming traffic so I hit high beam for a second or two. Without a word he handed back my licence and walked back to his car and drove off.
Yep , I waited about 10 seconds and had a chuckle as I drove off as well. LOLLOLLOL:D

I hear the traffic guys are sticking around for a while too. Watch the speed limits on Kosciuszko Road folks, especially where they change from 80 to 60.

Cheers mate. I'm still going, got myself back up there today and hopefully tomorrow too (yes, from Canberra). :D

31 days, 870 rides, 131.3 K vertical metres so far. Currently #56 on leaderboard.

So much late-season snow, had this been an ordinary year I reckon they would have extended like they did last year. I doubt they have the appetite to do it this year, though I've been wrong before. I think Vail just wants to get to the end of the season without incident. Especially given how many incidents there have been in the region, the latest being The Rivers Restaurant in Thredbo. Same with KT actually, they could have easily said "we're closing for a few days due to poor conditions" instead of pulling the pin on the season before the snowstorm (check out the cover, it's fine now) - however, I think they calculated if they close now they've remained, as a resort, almost incident-free (and certainly free of Covid spread).

So let's see - yesterday was slow because at one point I hit deep powder, and not only have I not learned how to ski powder the carving skis aren't designed to help me at all lol so I did a full face-plant! That really killed the confidence for a while. Pretty much everything else I know how to ski. I probably should have changed skis, but the day was slow enough without having to go to the car (again) to get them. Anyway that wasn't my "best stack yet for the year", that was on goats-gully near the top over the rocks near the chair when it was white-out and skiing down it fast. Oh well, I actually love white-out conditions (this was only where you couldn't see the snow/gradient not with heavy low-vis fog but either's fine by me), you pay a lot more attention to feeling the snow.

Today was good as well, but yesterday was better.

Okay that's all for now, see everyone tomorrow if I make it. :)

Oh I forgot to say, there's a ton of police on the highway now, so keep an extra eye on the speedo.

Chains from Prussian Creek ,for what I dont know only slush on road really.
Carpark conditions - wind has dropped to a breeze from the west ,temp around 0c ,there is a fog at around 1700 and above so conditions are a tad moist. Correction its actually small ice ,snow falling here and there.

Great snow again early this morning, lifts all opened early to try and spread the crowds out. Busy now in usual areas, carpark full, school holidays. No pictures didn't get time this morning.

Best day of the season today imo. Freshies down an ungroomed Sun Valley early was exceptional. Shame about the crowds at bade of Mt P. Need an 8 seater next season!

Decent out there today. Crowds built up by mid morning but given the hype over recent snowfalls, and with no other resorts open, it was bound to happen.

Kicked off early on the V8 with several regular forumites, a couple of runs then scooted off to Leichhardt ahead of the crowd. Straight to SV with @Kelpieboy where the patrollers sent us up 15 mins early.

That placed us first onto Eyre as well.....

Snow skied better than yesterday with the off piste far easier to carve. So the skiers fared better today compared to yesterday.

Plenty of options till the crowds arrived, a few runs down Sun then done. By 11.30 parts of SV were taking on that “typical” Spring look and feel. Should hold up for a few days with a bit of luck.

Not expecting anywhere near as many folks tomorrow. That said, I’d anticipate reports this afternoon of reduced crowd numbers as folks headed home Sunday afternoon.

When you are about the 300th person going up Mt P and only 5 or so of those in front of you ski down Towers, you know its going to be special off-piste. Nuff said.

Great fresh snow skiing off Guthega Trig and into Falls creek today. Even the newly covered shrubbbery skied ok. Lots of tracks all over Tate by 1.30.

Something I noticed, why is the quality of snow in front valley consistently better throughout the day compared to other parts of the resort? Is it because it's busy all day and the snow gets smashed and pulverised? Because it gets the most machine snow throughout the season?

Wow what a day and congrats to mountain ops getting everything going early today spreading the crowds and getting sun valley and international spinning again for the weekend . Hit mt p ( especially sun valley early which stayed pretty uncontested all day ) and headed back to front valley to avoid the crowds around 12 then over to eyre which was mint all arvo . Blessed picture of sun valley early on

For me it’s it, never been overseas to ski, probably unlikely to go in the next couple of years.

But it would be nice to return to some normality, whatever that will be in the short to medium term:)

@Jonathan_P We managed 23 days at the beginning of the year in BC, the real BC, Whistler, Sun Peaks, Big White. . The day we arrived at Sun Peaks , first day skiing. The family said , this is better then anything we had ever skied in OZ. The average Dec temp is -9. The snow is drier and softer, The two do not compare. Perisher is great , I plan 6 weeks next year, as long as the Dict// Premier / Doctor lest us out. It was our first trip there, We have had some good snow here in the last 4 years, even this year had its moments. A vaccine lays ahead of us, A shot before you go.. We will get back there.

    What a weekend!

From nothing to something special in 4 days.

Arrived in a storm on Friday night. Woke to a winter wonderland on Saturday. Skied my pants off for season best of 4000vms (without venturing near a 200+VM lift). Too bloody cold to get the camera out, so no photos of Saturday). We just circled FV, CV, Leichhardt/HV all day. No queues on FV/CV and minimal queues on Leichhardt. The snow quality was awesome for us.

Sunday was just as good, what a Bluebird Day it turned into. Saw a motley crew at the start gate, the lost site of them all just as quickly as the decanted for Mt P like a tsunami.

We lapped FV till the quad opened, then followed the wave. Spent the morning on Towers and Eyre. Had morning tea at "the cafe"

See if you can spot yourself!

Headed back to FV/CV for lunch. Leichhardt queue was a mess, all I could think was March of the Penguins.

Back in FV/CV was awesome. The snow quality was smooth, the lift queues were non existent, just lap after lap of fun. Goats was great (for me), FV a carving dream (for me). 10min laps through midstation.

Finished up for year at 2pm.

18 days skiing this year (cracked 40k VMs). So many highlights, so much improvement personally. Ticked off all but one of my goals (Vista), but have to save some things for next year.

Well done sounds like you have achieved pretty much all your goals this year and tackled much more difficult terrain, I find personally once that is done significant improvements continue to follow.

Good also to leave stuff on the list, I have done that gives me something to look forward to next year.

Really enjoyed reading your reports and seeing the progress:thumbs:
