Well folks - Happy New Year from Perisher Valley where there is only 5 months to go till ski season. Thought I’d start the year with a sunrise walk up Mt P but.......7 degrees, lightly raining and fog. Did I mention the visibility from the carpark?
Up there so went for a short walk in the fog. Base to mid and return. Solitude, crisp mountain air after rain and the sounds of bird life always make it worthwhile regardless of the weather........ Lots of traffic heading up the mountains despite the fog. Plenty of lodges at PV occupied. Some random pics taken whilst walking.
Anyone know if Harrow’s is open this summer? I know they normally head to Japan, but assume they aren’t this year. Happy New Year and New thread day!
The small rituals of the Perisher ski season to come continue for the Teleroo crew. Will be our first Perisher season. Little while ago it was mounting bindings on end-of-season-sale skis. Yesterday pay annual lodge subs and map out ski trips for the season ahead and accommodation requirements. Lament the reality of kids making skiing expensive since forever....Have a chat with some ski patrol types and confirm sit tight for another year before heading down that path.
Took a look at lasts years final thread numbers. Not sure why I did but regardless, over 11,000 posts and more than 32 posts per day.... Without discounting the fabulous utility of the broader ski dot com community and the wide range of topics.......that’s a lot of Perisher specific (generally) chat, banter and snow reports etc! And for the most part, all with good intentions!! Best ski community and mechanism to stay in the loop I reckon .
This is what it looks like from the top @SMSkier haha. Still foggy and raining a bit, but starting a little later it wasn’t 7 degrees today at least.
Well remortgaged the house (figuratively) for 5 weeks this year spread amongst 3 trips. The biggest being in August for 3 weeks, first one kicking off post school holidays in July. Only 1 solo trip and no on snow accommodation this year, budget cuts, so will be driving up every day. Also thinking about my first trip up in green season in April for a couple of days split between the resorts. Umm probably should think about buying a place in town maybe once crippling childcare cost are no longer a constraint
Couple of panorama shots taken during the last week. Thredbo to Perisher from Porcupine Rocks. Perisher from Mt Piper.
Probably look a little something like this. @Normo here is a mock up of the first run for season 2021, maybe....?
Sometimes in life things surprise you, but I can't imagine ever seeing @Normo in orange pants Mind you I thought I would never see him on super fat powder skis either .... the man continues to surprise us all BTW, I would find those conditions perfectly acceptable for first day of the season
@Donzah - confirming that Alpine Eyre is open on Australia Day! May not open the following day though. Mild temps up there today. Windy and around 19 degrees. About 30 people there circa 1 pm for lunch. Not all in pic. Plenty of tradies and resort staff. Distancing was ok as well. Burger, scallops and beer good. Healthy. Carpark patching commenced.
