The weather finally cleared a bit earlier today. It’s been a “conga line” of damp, misty and foggy weather.

Next milestone for 2021 is Eyre Cafe opening on Boxing Day.

11:00 a.m. for burgers and coffee. Who’s in?

Don’t bother with the carrot cake questions LOL

First really nice sunny day in I forget how long… Went for a short hike out of CP with plus 1. So many cars and people up there.

Noted this couple heading towards Mt P, skis in hand. Then later saw them up on the second from the top drift (the longer section) on Olympic. iPhone could not pick them up in the distance but they are there. Good on them .

Then a little walk at PV - just carpark to Leichhardt. Creek flowing so used the metal beam at a narrow spot to cross.

Just an indication of how much snow is needed at the Leichhardt load.

Out of interest, why is it that the Leichhardt load is so high?

Unsure…but that’s the RFID gates I guess as opposed to the load and they line up with the approach to the base of the actual chair, which is quite high as well - at the Bullwheel. I suspect it’s premised on the actual chairlift positioning, functionality, design and stuff like ground water etc with the RFID gates needing to align to both the approach and load. There’s been snow making there from the get /go and they produce so much around the approach and gates that you barely notice the snow depth come winter.

I have it on good authority that this is going to be the new chair at Mt P. Stay tuned.
Stuff the leather... Build them out of concrete so they can do what they're supposed to do - take me up the hill without going on wind hold And put a bigger donk in so they dont run at half speed..

I long for the good old days, and the padded seats on chair number 1 ;) Worth shuffling in the line a bit to make sure you caught the right chair LOL

Speaking of the Hana 1 lift.

Anyone else notice something strange? Whats the strange lip where your legs hang over?

I'm thinking the seat pads are in the vertical position, they will flip down to sit on. That photo is showing the bottom of the seat. Maybe.

Oh yeah footrests would go just nicely through Interceptor mid station.

Yeah true, that could be carnage, more than it is already!

But they did get rid of Ridge mid station... ;)

Interceptor mid is only kinda useful when the cover on the bottom slope is patchy. But since the whole lift is dependent on the snow cover down low, closing the mid station might not be a big deal for skiers and boarders. Management might prefer that too?

Second what skichic said. In addition to some people preferring to just lap the steep parts on the ridge or kamikaze the chutes under the chair midstation gets used for people returning from North P as well as those who lack the confidence to gun it over the bridge with enough momentum to clear the uphill part to the bottom.

Fair call. And especially now that the mid station is built, the easiest thing to do is keep using it.

But the funny thing with the current arrangement is that the mid station pushes the main run through the sequence of steepish slope, narrow bridge, and then flat/uphill - not a confidence inspiring section. So it could be that the presence of mid station is the justification for why the mid station is needed!

In hindsight, maybe it might have been better to omit the midstation, leaving all that space free for sliding. Then the main run could have been further under the lift line (further south / to skier's right than the current line), enabling people to keep their speed more consistent down a wider and more gradual slope, and with a shorter trip across the flats at the bottom.

But no matter, it's there now. So no footrests on Interceptor then.

As you pointed out there is a bridge there, this is because of the large creek that forms in front of midstation (which is why that area is often roped off). You can still hook up with the last part of the piste via the discovery trails which has some fun natural features instead of over the bridge.

Yep. And if the mid station wasn't there, then the bridge could have been built higher up the creek, and the main run could have gone through there, under the lift line.

But that's all hypothetical now, given that the mid station has already been dug down to create a low point in the slope.

Yesterday and last night were our families major celerbrations for the year ..... Midsummer.
After prayers to the gods we partook in the rituals ,the sacrifices of the burnt offerings (surprise ,surprise it was lamb) ,the fortified wine and meads ,the singing and dancing (which finished in the small hours) before the naked fording of the river which was surprisingly sobering this year. Tonight sees a conclusion to the celebration with the traditional games being held. More burnt offerings with wine ,mead and beer throughout being the order of the event.

Now we begin the descent to winter with the first major marker behind us.

Glad tidings to all and hope to see you all when the ground is white again.

Went up for a little hike past the V8 with a family member who’s visiting.

As you’d expect, so many folks about in town, on the roads and CP etc. The beauty of PV - easy to avoid the crowds when it’s busy. No parking hassles and plenty of short walk options.

Resort has done a bit more summer grooming and drainage where the tree and rock works were undertaken last off season.

Well that’s 2021 all but done as far as the resort goes. Just a tic over 5 months till the lifts spin..

Trust you all gave a safe NYE and then ready for 2022 season when it rolls around…..:)

what do you guys think about this season, with the amount of cases we have everyday. My plan is keep going, but will limited the amount of time indoor as much as possible. And full protection, gloves masks etc. Bring my own food/water and only take break outside or in the car. Plus avoid shopping during busy hours for food. Thoughts?

I have worked face to face through the last two winters and my take is:

Avoid indoors
Try to keep distance in lines
Shop outside of peak
No restaurants and pubs

On current goings on there is a very good chance there will be minimal or no restrictions as covid will most likely be endemic and it will be all too hard for most to give a shit.

Will be interesting to see how this season compares to the last two. I suspect it will be crazy busy as I assume there will be no lockdowns and no or minimal state border requirements.
