I don't think we will see much of ADI anymore, Nathan has taken over for this season, Adi might visit, but he is really not well enough to work. :(

edit: Nath is a great operator though

My dad used to work for Adi in the 80s when the shop was down the other end of the centre. I've been catching up with him every year for the past 40 years to say g'day. What a legend. I hope he's on the mend.

Just demand a performance security from your son. I'm sure he can make it happen.
Would love to but I am a victim of his success. The demand on his time is so great now that even his long standing clients can't get a booking. Last on the list would be me. And on the odd occasion last season we had a few runs together he was on his telly boards (fair enough).

Home again for a few days, before returning for the LWE.
Today's fireball sunrise, must have been seen elsewhere for sure.

Turns on FV for the first hour today were fun. Wide GS lines, very few folks there, so safe and the snow held up well. Windy though, the lift continually went into slow mode as the automated systems overrode the designated speed. Staff were onto it quickly each time. And cold with the windchill. Left the same time as @Normo - enough in those conditions on FV.

Assuming the forecasted snow arrives, and the road gets closed till October, I drove up to CP for looks where it was windier and closed in.

This pic below is about 100 metres from where the Spencer’s snow depth readings are taken. Calling @Lady Penelope for the 2021 thread.

And just a pic of Eyre….. hopefully that’s white for the next 5 or so months!

Road should be closed tomorrow if snow arrives in quantity - and no, they won’t keep it open till the LWE. IMO.

Did the bubble burst on Thursday or did some dope typo?

SO the large LOW will be dead set over Perisher, so they cut the rate of fall.. Lets see.

Just posting these here as a point of reference, so we can watch stuff go under! Done that a bit over the last 5 years. I do think at 60cm , Perisher could be embarrassed. (when they cant locate the stick tomorrow)?

I don't think I've ever seen the stake much above 30cm, the weight of the snow starts compressing.

Beast from the east last year...Circa 50cm.
*No wind.
I remember the stuff against the stake as close to 40-45, but the majority of the table was still around the 30 mark.

So where should we measure? The table average, or the stake high water mark?

Mmmm ... I was planning to drive back down from Sydney tomorrow afternoon / evening. If this forecast comes off, it will be mayhem, and the monaro highway / kosciuszko rd could be closed, or very dangerous  Somehow, I just can't see that coming off. However, discretion is the better part of valour, and I might postpone my drive down:( Happy to be getting the snow though

I do remember one storm, probably around 2000 or so, when the federal highway between Goulburn and Canberra, and the Monaro were both closed by snow, so it can happen.

Cross reference with the AWS. IMO. Normally they are reasonably close. Currently the AWS is showing 10 cms. Stake maybe 15. So given aspect and elevation differences etc, I’d conclude 10-15 cms without being on site. I’ll tell you in the morning though :)

There is some formula which works the gauge measurement to snow on ground allowing for compaction.. its around 65%-75% usually. We don't really measure fall here. We concentrate on depth. 2ft of snow over all of Perisher in 2 days time, thats about as good as it gets in June.

Wow, 20 to 30cm of snow at Cooma would make the roads pretty hectic.

2009 all over again?

July school holidays, first time at the snow with the kids. All 47 lifts going. Hardpack on the ground at Skirider. We thought it was normal...
Wish it was! Any time there is snow at SkiRider means it should be better than average conditions. Lets see what this system brings. What will be more important though is that whatever we do get, sticks around. If it does, it should be a good start to the season.

My memory is in the 70s and 80s the Ski Rider was always in snow just as the lake below Sponars was always frozen. Showing my age I guess.
