"Recommended", but not compulsory. So that means 99% of people don't bother. I was actually surprised that virtually no staff were masked up.
That's a shame really. Last season was the first I can remember without any respitory infection at all. I put that down to covid precautions and would be happy if the whole plan was followed again this season (except maybe reserving days).

Plenty of people there today, not so many riding the Pretty Valley double however.
Not many repeat customers on the pretty valley lift though. Off piste was very soft snow with a crust. It was only a matter of time till you went in too hard and opened up a crater. Fortunately as I had two planks once I righted myself I could glide back to safety. For those on one plank it was a very long walk. Saw a few of them trying to paddle on their board with limited success.

Nah its not normal for QBW .

Well let's see - no Mt Selwyn, capacity restrictions at Thredbo, and many Vic punters will be coming to NSW instead. Like or not people are being funnelled to Perisher.

Oh and I forgot, you no longer have to buy lift passes online in advance either, so that also opens up more spontaneous guests/passholders bringing their mates.

Not too bad a day really. I didn't find the crowds too bad ,don't think I waited in a queue for very long at any stage. Combination of yelling "single" all day which can gain you great territory in any queue and being one of the great "queue rats" of our era ( I have been told I could queue rat for Australia :D ) meant I made short shrift of most queues.
I went down to Pretty early in the day and thought I would have a crack off piste and was going ok for a while and thinking this ain't so bad. Just at that point ,as always happens ,I find myself bum up and my head buried in the snow. Still no idea exactly what happened but brushed myself off and kept going down to the chair and away.
I thought the trip down Goats was the pick of the day for mine ,it held up pretty well till mid arvo.
Spent a few hours with grandaughter which is always something to treasure.
It just is never cold enough here , except those 2 weeks in August. Be down 17/6 to 26/6... keep eyes peeled for you.

Smiggs opens tomorrow , The run down the duplex is better value than 8 and maybe quicker..? Rumour has it that a 19000m day was once done there.. Thing of legends.
According to Perisher's own stats, Front Valley should wallop the Smiggs duplex run for VM accumulation. But how often does the V8 run at full speed?

And if you can lap the duplex every 4 minutes, or 15 times per hour, 19,000 still isn't mathematically possible, sorry.

The Burke t was open, but the run wasnt groomed. It was horrid.

Daughter hit a depression at low speed and lost a ski. While helping her up, another skier buried his ski tip in a hole at speed, head over heels into the snow.

The low flat light at the time didn't help for spotting the hazards.

Sometimes later in the season the lifts open early.
Yeah nah. Smiggs duplex would have to start spinning around 6.30 to make 19K a statistical possibility. And you'd still need to carry food and water for the day. Not to mention pissing off the chair on the way up. No time to poo either.

My last 10 rides of the V8 last night took me 45 minutes, a 4.5 minute lap average. Queue was not ski straight on but close too it. As Nightskywatcher said there was a lot of snowboarders who seemed to have a lot of trouble with the dismount, so the lift did go into slow mode or stop often (nearly every ride I took).

I reckon getting laps down to 4min would be possible with less people, lift running at capacity the entire time and actually skiing at full throttle.

That would be 13260m in a standard 8.5hr lifted day (Extra 4680m with night skiing).

But those perfect conditions would never exist and it would not be that fun of a day.

Northern Beaches, Sydney,
Towers is nicely groomed. I heard a rumour that Perisher are scrambling to find the lifties to open it. Meanwhile queues are … epic :(
That was gonna be my suggestion, also couple with the fact The cow is probably ready to open as well, they just can’t find the lifties or groomers to do it.
