No but seriously better noodles (Holy Noodle is awful)

More 'restaurants' food, like at Thredbo (Merritts etc.)

Would be nice to be able to get lunch for the family without having to visit the bank manager.

We found that by using the perisher season pass at Perisher owned outlets in conjunction with a value meal ,the prices were reasonable .
One place does come to mind that really empties your wallet very quickly.

I agree with the Subway suggestion. If not that actual franchise, perhaps an independent doing freshly made sandwiches (not the refrigerated, pre packed stuff). Sandwiches, wraps, salads, fruit salads, good simple healthy stuff. Doesn't need to be overly expensive.

Good idea, thinking along same lines. I'm not in food industry just trying to see if I can do a season pay my way and offer up something reasonably healthy that doesn't break budget.

Thats my thoughts, maybe the rents etc force the high prices. I'd like to offer quick pretty healthy value option. Thx for replays.

Look at some of the food options in Japan. Not just the resorts but as a general thing. Even at places like 7-11 you can get something instant that is either healthy or not to unhealthy, for example:
    • steamed buns
    • rice triangles
    • ramen noodles
    • spaghetti with various toppings
    • salads
    • curries
    • schnitzels - usually chicken or pork.
    and much more.

For sure. The cost of food is one only Perisher can solve. They've got a monopoly going. Either you buy food from them or you buy food from a place that rents from them. Not much competition there. I don't think this problem is going to go away. They get enough punters as it is. Lower food prices won't make more people come to the snow.

There is a food kiosk near the bottom of Happy Valley T bar that has been unused for the last few years. Good enough location in most weather conditions, usually plenty of people in the Happy Valley lift queue, might be worth talking to Perisher about a discount rent deal. Even selling moderately priced water, soft drinks, Powerade, muesli bars etc, along with a sandwich/salad offering would win a few people over.

He was referring to what happens in Japan as this is quite common there

And yep one of the things done better at resorts in Japan is the price and quality of food. There is probably a thread somewhere on here about it or something that would give you some ideas. There are a few people that rave about the 7-11 fired chicken - bit unhealthy for my taste but it is nice. That is not up on the mountain but something to think about.

A decent soup or noodle place would be good, choice of a few hearty soups, including a vegetarian option. Should be relatively cheap.

    its a mentality thing.
just challenge a perisher food provider on FB and you'll see

"don't you know how hard it is.......!!!!!"

    same mentality as Jindabyne.

Yeah and then they'd put a policy in place like at the footy (Etihad) whereby no "outsourced" food would be allowed across the bridge in to the resort.
Be interesting to see what Vail brings to the table.

a few years ago I complained at that dreadful back street thai food shop - that the food was served cold. I had to complain three times before they finally heated it up to something approaching warm. A local couple eating there got all upset that I was hassling the shop keeper and tried to justify it on the basis that we are in thee "mountains" and it's really hard to heat up food. I looked at them like you gotta be kidding ... it's the middle of Sept, the sun is shining and it's nearly 20C outside and we're not even at 1000 metres. Seriously how hard can it be to reheat the food to a reasonable temperature.

But my favourite complaint is how Sundance doesn't put any prices up on its board for the food items it sells like pies and sausage rolls. A typical aussie trick at a tourist food outlet where you just stiff the customer for the overpriced food item at the till knowing the chances of them saying no are close to zero.

To his credit, Steve at Eyre cafe clearly marks the price of all his food items, and it's something all food shops should do as just a plain simple courtesy to their customers.

We cannot complain about what my mogul skier is allowed to do. He gets free hot water for his noodles at lunch time. But he does this 5 times a week and just walks straight past the check out with his own bowl that has their hot water in it. Though you would think that for the guys that are training that often and staff that there would be a kettle or a microwave.

Japow has amazing fast lunch options, but the best "fast food" item I've ever had was a huge plate of confit duck wings in sticky BBQ sauce at Couloir, Jackson Hole. Not technically FF, but you could grab a plate of those and couple of beers and feed 2 for lunch no problem.

AMAZING! (and good food costs too no doubt ;) )

Curries. They go well with beer, so if conditions are crap and you have a season pass, what's better than a curry and coldie while you wait to see if conditions improve?
More importantly, Perisher spends a motza on the terrain park in front valley, yet there are no places for people to check out the action. Perisher attracts some of the best from around the world and if you can draw people closer to the action, more money will be spent. Every year I look at hundreds of wealthy people sitting in the main complex, staring out into the never never (babies on skis perhaps). I have been to places where the bars are next to the jumps and the closeness drives people's adrenalin and spurs them on - weather it be hitting the slopes with a renewed vigor, belting down shots, or ordering more food. More curry.

Hakuba 47 and moguls events. You walk out of the top gondola station and see the course. So many people watching they have crowd control (well 1 guy telling people to move).

At Perisher a lot of people on the chair are watching. But it is a bit of pot luck as to what you will see.

As a few have already mentioned I think something similiar to what subway do would be great in the high volume areas like the Perisher centre,Blue Cow and the Pub,keep it a bit simpler but still with the choice of white, wholemeal and multigrain.Get em pumping through and keep the waiting times down to a couple of minutes.

    The biggest problem is...
    Perisher owns the Food courts.
Manor owns the Pub food court.
Private family owns the mid station.

They are all in complacent cohoots.

NPWS revoked the licenses of the food kiosks, plumbing, drainage and health safety concerns. It was a great place for a snack though, plus the one at Centre Valley (thanks to Jane!), Miss those quick easy options, mid-Perisher is a gigantic rip off, the Perisher owned ones are OK with season pass discounts. Kebabz are the best :)

yes same , Cowpaccino usually , can't stand it upstairs
with freedom discount it's bring pretty much to normal pricing ^.
Had friends look into some vacant retail space year or two back, and Perisher wanted $30K 'ish for the season.....
