snowing all day, the report on their website even says 25 cms of the white stuff fell.
Not the whole truth - 3pm weather says Drizzle in the valley. You can see on the cams that they have lost some of the cover lower down , check Smiggs. Even the very top of Thredbo reported drizzle and +1 degrees at 3pm (2000m ASL). But still a net gain for the last 24hrs - I no complain.....
funny there wasnt as much hype for this snow fall. was it unpredicted?
Awsome day at PB- Wet snow to kick off with at Front valley headed up to blue cow nice big fat dry stuff up top, a bit of wetter snow down low the very bottom of excelerator was basically rain/sleet but the snow seemed to be holding up ok. Guthega is white again and surprisingly had some nice powder. Visibility was pretty average though but cant complain it was snowing hard. At 10.45am stopped for a hot chocolate for approx 15mins and there would have been 5cm of fresh snow sitting on my skis in that time. Hopefully more snow to come and the rest of PB may be able to open. Mount P will be close to opening now.
Eyre T bar opens 2mrw kids.
swa the groomers on towers snowcam today at bout 1 or 2pm, i was stoked
How are they getting people up their, on the oversnows or will they run Mt P. Towers must be about ready to go but Sun Valley could be sketchy in parts.
The Nordic trails are getting groomed for the first time this season
Certainly the best the cover has been all season. Lots of closed areas open today.
They are opeinging Mt P doubble aswell..
that chairlift equals death
that chairlift opening equals death of children
Fill us in on the "death of children" line.
I remember seeing that chairlift the first time and thinking how the hell did it get past OH&S. Guess im too used to the coushy stuff
i'm not sure about this death of children business, but i'm not sure there would be many parents willing to put their kids on that lift. That said, if you put your kid on that lift expecting them to ride down mt p then they probably could handle the chair. catch 22. same story on ramshead. The unload at the top of the mtp triple is way more hectic, bro (yulleh)
btw, none of this is weather talk
back on topic, perisher aws reported 55mm on tuesday and i reckon that's a big pile of carp when compared with other local results and results from areas which were influenced by the same rain bands.
I wouldnt just say that amount was crap (or carp)- I skied perisher on tuesday and there was definatly some place's that had some good acumulation (guthega- There was place's with over 40cm of snow where there was no snow only 2 days prior) So it didnt completely shock me when I saw those figures.
Just a comment on MT P Double Chair. Its been operating since the early 60's ive been using it for almost 35 years - in all that time ive never heard of anyone been killed on it. Very safe and reliable, but both Chairs are scheduled for replacement by a 6 seater hopefully this summer. Looking at the CAM at the moment i'd rather be sitting on the Double Chair than home....anyday.
didnt reallly mean that it was killing people, its an exadguration(however you spell it)
i watched a kid forget to take the pin out that stops you from falling off, and jumped out and was hanging by his neck, the lifty didnt even see that kid and the only thing that stopped him was the safety cord.
I don't kow where you get your information from but these chairs won't be replaced for a long time yet. Next chaor to be replaced will be terminal at BC to a new alignment and this chair will go in where the telemark T-Bar is to give new access to a beginners area around Piper.
With the development getting knocked arund by NP &WS any improvements are years away.
