Ok thanks Donza. 4 of us are trying to work out when we are going to make the first journey from Perth to Perisher this year and start using our crispy new season passes. Would you have a guesstimate of what might get open week commencing monday 30?

Perisher will do everything possible to get the whole shebang open for the start of Qld/NSW school hols.
If their efforts over the last few weeks are any indication....it will be a full offering.
    The vibe is very good!:D

    Can't see it happening.
this year reminds me so much of how 2010 started.
I can't see 100% before the end of NSW school holidays.
Biggest problems being most of Smiggins and Guthega, Pretty & Pleasant Valleys, Olympic, Sun Valley, Eyre & International.

But then I am no expert and really hope I'm wrong

Hey Normo and Mook, thanks for your feedback! We would be happy with FV in great shape and a reasonable Mt P, Excelerator, Zali's and Roller Coaster. Happy Valley is always good for a gentle leg warmer first up.

35 lifts open by Saturday week. IMO. All resort open. Just not all lifts.

I sense a much stronger commitment from Perisher 2014 to years past. The machinery is in place. People seem to be standing by waiting to make any positive move. If Mother Nature delivers as some are suggesting is coming over the next few days.....make sure you are here!

They won't be able to cut it in, in time, even if enough snow.

you don't want it open. Just enough lifts to get around so you can poach fresh in closed areas.

Yup.....Olympic is low priority. Get everything else groomed up and operational.......add Olympic when all else is functioning. Perhaps 99% would have been a better OP.
There will be heaps available IMO. :)

In past years it has taken 1-2 days to get just about everything open. Olympic and North P usually wait.

The links between areas take a bit of building, but they normally try hard to get these going. Stretching the memory, but I believe the high road to Blue Cow has also waited in the past because they have to move lots of snow.

Yes, I should have been a little less optimistic than 100% in the OP. Olympic is not even on my radar. My idea of Perisher bliss is a great run down Vista.

I'd be happy if there was enough lifts and runs open to spread everyone out so the wait isn't too long for the next chair.

The areas I don't think will be open are International, sun valley, Olympic, Lawson in Centre valley, North P, Guthega until links are built. Smiggins will be pretty much 100%.

My personal favourite in terms of skiing is skiing while its snowing heavy, so I figured Tuesday this week would be the best time to go for a quick one day trip. My only concern is that they will not have anything open at all, due to basically wind and the fact that all the snow will be new from the night before.

Does anyone reckon they will have a couple of tbars in centre valley open on Tuesday?

Depends on Sunday through to Monday evening. Won't take much beyond 20cms to start things moving quickly.

There are 2000 or so kids and teachers from Qld arriving tomorrow. The demand to gets things open asap will ensure it's one lift after another being opened up this week.

They had plenty of staff out today replacing snow on the mini terrain park, so they are ready to put a legion of young ones to work making a ski resort next week.

If wind is a problem and there is enough snow - u might get lucky on Tuesday in Centre Valley.

Seemed to be a heap of new staff arriving this weekend, lots of patchy cover, still needs significant falls to get things cranking

Also similar to mid-July 2011. The week we got there it was patchy at the start, then 1.2m fell over our last 3 days. Something like 27 lifts going the day we left, and it took a week or more to get the links open and all lifts going.

This week's falls are almost perfectly timed, as Perisher usually runs on a skeleton staff from opening until just before the school hols. Should be plenty of labour there now, but a lot of snow to move around too.

By Monday 30th, I'd expect maybe 35-40 lifts and probably 75% of the runs open. Blue Cow, Guthega and Mt P should all be cranking by then with the most popular and accessible runs open.

Sith yeah! If the fall is 70-100 or so by Monday, the trees should be pretty special. It just seemed that the OP was most interested in groomers & lifts.
