Risk of that today; I went for a look earlier (with boards in my car) but I didn't surf. In fairness North Av was surfable - if you had a super-human immune system and weren't too worried about Noahs or submerged random stuff (a couple of Brazilian backpackers were surfing and I had a chat to one when he finished his session) - but Palm Beach was just NO. Weirdest washed-up object I found on a quick look was a park bench, and there was a _lot_ of large logs and other nasty stuff out in the water waiting to whack unsuspecting surfers and swimmers. Reckon I won't be surfing for another couple of days.

Nambucca heads leads the month to date totals with 1086mm so far, some more shower activity possible next week may push it up further. Mt Seaview not too far behind with 1083mm. Totals ranged from 300-400mm across much of Syd peaking on the mountains with 566mm and 581mm in Katoomba and Blackheath respectively.

Some good falls around Cowra and Young atm. Welcome rain for Wyangala Dam which is only 59% atm.
It's the end of the irrigation season next month so for Wyangala to be nearly 60% is good going cf most years. Check on real-time water when it's back on line.

“Event” totals for NSW to 9:00 this morning - one week period 9:00 17/3/2021 to 9:00 23/3/2021:

EDIT: It’s hard to recall when this event started given that it feels like it’s been raining forever - 13 of the last 14 days for Sydney OH, fourteen consecutive days for many Sydney sites. However, the Easterly trough kicked off on the 16th-17th so I’ll take that as the start.

Similar logs -well larger in size - from US and Canadian rivers floated to Hawaii to be made into canoes well before the Duke took up surfing.

I know the BOM says a wetter than average April but I believe that a fair amount of ridge could return and an Indian Summer could be on the cards (we would all love that).

Humidity has been 95% plus for days. Check your freezer and its coating of condensation and mould.

It’s nothing like all the coastal regions but after almost a week of watching the coast soak and Bathurst getting nothing———-
I emptied my gauge for the full event to find 66mm.

puny by coastal standards but on top of rain a couple of weeks ago, we would be running around 120mm for March, absolutely amazing for here.

Macquarie running up around moderate flood or just below.

Burrendong to get a good lift from the rivers around here

rain was close to perfect for Bathurst I suspect

Great resource there.

Would love to know where I can find this clickable map with rainfall totals over extended periods. Have tried to locate on the BOM site to no avail (only the last 24 hours or since 9 am etc) if you wouldn't mind sharing, please? :)

Try this one, and then use the links to get other forecast regions and NSW.
You can hover over the dots to find location and station name.

Hey, I think they actually got rid of that particular link from the Climate section (though could be wrong). Luckily I saved it to my bookmarks years ago

Nice to see a bit of sun albeit very late in the day. A nice sunset was on the cards and I made the beach just in time.

I thought it was always forecast to form off the far South Coast?
The core of the low had different trajectories on the models.
As it is it passed over Victoria. Stayed over land far longer than was charted.
Further up the NSW coast and the rainband from the noreast would have impacted onshore.
As it was(the rainband) it seemed to be 100kms offshore.

Amazing work by Blue Mountains SES and council for the cut off Megalong Valley community. A foot track around the landslide on the road has been established, they've organised regular bus service from there and even a Coles online shopping delivery where you can get the groceries delivered to the landslide site and then carry them to your car on the other side.

I would be very worried being anywhere near that. It could all go at anytime.

The stars are now out on the Jindy North Shore.

Some lovely much appreciated rain over 9 days to make the land happy and set us up for autumn. Our off grid system plugged away and got us through. Tanks are full, dogs are black and smelly, horses happy, muddy puddles everywhere, weeds flexing and the firewood pile needs a good dry out.

So much pain elsewhere once again :( So many people displaced and animals lost.

Stay safe people

Just managed to log on to WaterNSW.

At 11pm tonight there is still about 300,000ML/day discharging from Warragamba and about 130,000ML/day in the Nepean at Menangle Weir. So over 400,000ML/day below the junction.

Penrith Gauge say 485,000ML/day. North Richmond about 450,000ML/day.
