Hi, has anyone flown Philippine Airlines recently? About a decade ago they were banned from entering Europe, since then they've purchased new planes etc and have permission to fly to Europe. Any thoughts? T.I.A, Tanuki
4 of us flying return from 31/12 and returning 24/1 to lhr for under 5k with good timing makes it very good $ wise.
I’m banking on the fact that at least 50% of pilots know to press the right buttons and that with 2 of them in the cockpit, between them they should get me there.
Yep, have flown them many times. Also, u can offer money for an upgrade at the check-in. I usually pay $150 from Singapore to Manila or Hong Kong to go from Economy to Business. A good deal.
Given how many planes you get on you don't want to start doing the "odds" game. I am just doing the stick my fingers in my ears and sing lalalalalala thing whenever I start feeling anxious on a plane.
The boss is doing a secondment in Manila later this year and I think her work has a cheapest fare policy - i.e. probably flying Phillipines. Whether she gets there or not ... well either way - winning.
Don't leave the airport, kidnapping entire families is not unusual in the Philippines. If kidnapped, negotiate a good deal with Netflix.
The first time I went to Manila, the hotel I was staying at wouldn't let the "taxi" I was in enter the drive way. I had to get out and walk, then they told me off. I didn't realise it was that dangerous.
Do you have to get off the plane? Only time I’ve landed in Manila we stayed on the plane - it was a detour to drop of a medical emergency - on the ground for long enough to find the passengers bags and get a take off slot. That’s as close as I’m interested in going at this stage. Felt sorry for the person offloaded to hospital.
Yeah the hotels are really big on security as they're pretty much the target up there. Overall I don't think it's that bad although a buddy has had a knife pulled on him around the corner of the hotel in daylight.
ive just booked with them, was hard to go past ~$600 return, relatively short notice, pretty reasonable total flight times. should i expect something similar to the mainland chinese airlines? will report back.
They were great on out Mel to London via Manila 2 weeks back. New plane, good service and a great price. With the exception of taking off over an hour late (had taxi out to take off then lady 2 rows in front had a heart attack) but only 15 mins behind schedule at lhr, I was a big fan
