Getting the 90 days could be nice for trying out the new ANA flight Perth - Tokyo. But given I’m not planning on flying United anytime soon the switch won’t work for me.

    Good promo though.
Those sticking with their current programme due to the perks but unsatisfied with the current one would jump at he opportunity to bypass the acquisition phase.

See I fly United a bit but not enough to earn many status creds as they are short internals normally... but if I could get gld ua then fly ua to US from Perth and thus get gold UA until 2021 ... boom cuckalucka! Gold 1W and SA :)

Star Alliance Gold is a good card to have for ff's, once out of Australia.

I've done a stupid amount of flying on United and they're definitely shit, but SA Gold is one useful benefit I got via UA.
I've got the Lifetime SA Gold thing which includes another card I can gift, which my wife claims is the one benefit for her from all my absences.

Other Star Alliance airlines actually take SA Gold seriously. e.g. access to Lufthansa Senator lounges which you don't even get in bus. class.
