Hi folks, I have a set of older Plum Guides (second hand) I am looking to mount. Can anyone advise if the toepiece requires a mounting plate of some sort? When not on a ski, two elements of the toepiece extend below the base, one in ski mode (the base of the tow lever below the toe springs) and one in open mode (the opening lever itself). Supplied screw length is the same for all 16 screws which tells me that the levers rest/push on the ski topsheet but I wanted to check with the brains trust. Pics attached above (am yet to consistently manage to get them to go below text!) I have had a quick look around the web but not found anything to assist yet. TIA
Probably not looking at the old installation guides and reviews (2011 onwards) https://www.wildsnow.com/3987/plum-guide-review-binding/ https://cascadeclimbers.com/plum-guide-backcountry-ski-binding-review-by-sky-sjue/ If you want an after market base plate they are available. Could mean you don’t have to redrill a ski...bit of extra weight. https://skimo.co/plum-adjustment-plates. Probably has same hole pattern as Dynafits...
Check your screw length. Put a screw in one hole and measure how far below the toepiece it extends. If its more than 4.9mm you need a baseplate. edit: the screw should extend 9mm for an adult binding.
Ta. It looks to be an 8.9mm screw length below the toe base, suggesting a 4mm+ mount plate required. I’ll email Plum. Cheers all.
Sorry, seniors moment. Binding screw holes are drilled 9mm deep. It looks like that binding doesn't use a base plate. Try putting them on a piece of wood and see how the mechanism goes.
Follow any marks on the ski. The rule of thumb otherwise is 4.1mm for skis with a metal laminate and 3.6mm for skis without. If you're not sure if the ski has metal or not drill 3.6 and if you see metal shavings redrill at 4.1
Cheers. Tried the timber with the 4.1 and seems fine The sticks note 4.1mm x 9.5 mm so will do as they say! Does anyone have a favourite ‘follow these instructions’ page for binding install? Will be having a go through the week
Not Plum, but Dynafit. Same sane almost. https://www.wildsnow.com/16524/do-it-yourself-mount-dynafit-tech-ski-bindings/ Add beer, measure twice, drill once...
