The modelling is now doubling the estimated amount of snow predicted to fall at Hot Ham. This could be amazing or just a novelty in terms of XC skiing in VIC. in NOV.
Other Vic . ski location will do well too.....
Falls Creek and Baw Baw and even Lake Mtn. will get some spring love too.

All looking Rock Hopper -able. This is looking good . The ski season is not over until it is over!

If all goes well I will get to XC ski at Hotham or Falls on Sat. or Baw Baw if the snow cameras suggest something promising.

eg: the night of Dec 24/25 2006. 30cm fell in the carpark at LM while bushfires ravaged Mt Buller.

I can't really see it looking good for any XC skiing but I would not want to dissuade Mr. T from the long drive to hop on rocks or walk on roads. Temps are not really low enough for good snow until Friday afternoon so before then it will be slop and likely to melt fast on the bare surface. Think of it like May snow. There is no base. It may freshen a couple of runs around Nelse but with 40 or so mm of rain in the last two days I think that could be a big ask also. Bogong High Plains road could shut for a short time but Sunday is warming again so it will all be gone. I could drive through it and cut a good track to bare tar. All this system means is that I will have to go and cut a bit more firewood and I may have to rug the horses. Their winter coats are gone.

I would prefer to go bushwalking next weekend. This weekend has been a washout . Next weekend looks like it won't be much chop for walking in the Vic. Alps with cold , fog and wet weather plus snow. Saturday next weekend could be almost skiable at Hot Ham or Baw Baw.

The Modelling is now looking like way more R**n :-( and less snow plus the main cold front will hit its acme on Saturday and not Friday . Sunday will quickly warm up above zero so most snow will melt very quickly. I am no longer convinced this will be what it initially promised in terms of any XC skiing in November. Come on clear and dry weather. You know you can do it , just for the bushwalking cause!.

It looks rock hopper XC skiable at Baw Baw right now.
    http://www.janebunn.net/mt-baw-baw

It looks tempting :). I would take the chainsaw in the boot with the safety gear just in case I get a tree down on the road en route. However the forecast looks like rain from 10 am tomorrow onwards at BB and above zero temperatures. Both make for poor snow retention.

The "more snow" is tempting. The "very windy" is a turn off. It could be a coin toss whether to go up for the day .

I'm doing this. Going up with a friend in a 4wd with gear to cut our way through any fallen timber. Aiming to arrive Baw Baw 7am, it will still be fresh and still snowing. It will start R**ning (can I really think this is a bad word in November!) around 10am. We'll be looking to leave the mountain around lunchtime.

I did look at LM. Just not enough on the ground and predicted falls overnight do not get close to Baw Baw. Conditions there (Baw Baw) look much better and conditions should be on par with the October trip.

I am going tomorrow. I am decided and I have my attire , day pack , food etc. ready. I have a chain saw, chainsaw safety gear, snow shovel, wheel chains and all my ski gear packed into the car!. Maybe a 6 am departure?.

@Mister Tee on XC Skis, give me a call when you arrive at the car park. My friend and I will head out when we arrive, we might be an hour and half ahead of you. We'll meet up on the trails.

Mmm...very tempting for tomorrow with clearer weather. As long as the rain doesn't wash the current cover away.

Temp has risen abit this afternoon according to BOMs AWS. If they manage to stay negative tomorrow would be fantastic.
    Today was awesome.
I spoke to @Mister Tee on XC Skis in the carpark. I'm sure he will report later

It was snowing all morning at BB, big ,dry , fat flakes and had begun to turn to sleet when I drove down the hill at about 1330.I will post a full trip report soon. It was a fabulous XC ski excursion and was better than many ski days I had during July 2019.

Yes, I wonder if I could ski there tomorrow?
The forecast looks iffy for LM tomorrow. Too warm and wet.

You should have gone this morning. All Fresh tracks, no footprints and not much wind at all. Now the snow ball throwers have walked all over it over all the XC ski trails :( it needs a skidoo groomer dragged over it. I would estimate 30 cm of powder fell in 24 hours.

WOOHOO! ILooks great. Now to convince SWMBO that we should pack for a ski tomorrow at Bawbs. Any signs of treefall on the access road from the resort gate. We would use the south face road to get to that point.

I took a chainsaw and did not need to use it.The South Face road was clear. The snow plough mobile was clearing the road this morning at about 0845. I put the Tee mobile in low gear and crawled up the snowy steep road without fitting chains even though the sign said all cars must fit chains here. I will decide if it is THAT sketchy and drive to the conditions . Conditions all round were like mid winter today. Fooking amazing.

I told all those walkers/wankers off.I asked them to please consider the safety of other skiers and desist from walking all over the untracked snow on the XC ski trails, off season or out of season that is the right thing to do.

. I was skiing on my Madhsus Epoch BC XC skis which helped me ski over the foot prints but apart from @beefa skiing and his ski buddy's tracks I was the third skier on the hill and was amply rewarded for 0450 wake up time and drive from NE Melb.

If you go and ski down Tank Hill then you will see where I herringboned the whole way and up skied down it including a couple of crashes. The snow was so fresh , sticky and ungroomed and unconsolidated that trying to Stem Christie turn on that surface on that run led to a couple of falls .The fresh snow meant falling over did not hurt a bit nor did I break through the snow and hit gravel or grass , (just like the "haircuts do not hurt skit from Sesame street"). I was also hungry and had XC skied approximately 3 hours non stop.

XC skiing at Baw Baw. Sat. am. 9/11/19. It took a while to get my mojo back after being off the planks for 4 weeks. The snow cover warranted taking the good BC XC skis and leaving the rock hoppers in the car.The walkers ruined the trails with their bleeding footprints by the time I called it quits at about 1200-1230 pm. and went off to eat lunch inside my car.
