Wasn't sure where to post this - either Noticeboard or here.

But since my purpose is the Thredbo session I thought I would post here.

Chris Davenport is coming to Australia to promote POW (protect our winters)

He will be in Thredbo next Friday and i am going to go to the talk at 6pm in the Kozi Room - anyone keen to come along?

He is also doing a Hike in the morning - more details (and more about Buller) here...

Beacon probe and shovel? Thredbo to koz. Must be going up the secret stealth bitching 4000m coloir that noone told the lands department about. Much pretend.

Gotta love the cause. Burning jet fuel to ski all around the world drawing attention to the fact you carbon footprint is farking the snow season. Protect our winters by staying the fark in yours please.

    Bwahahaha.

F me. If I wasn't otherwise committed I'd skin up in the morning and go to Kosci at the same time without a beacon shovel or probe

Look I think it’s overkill too and wonder if it will limit numbers, maybe that’s their point.

However I do like that the are reinforcing that out of the resort is not to be messed with and for that I like it.

Not sure a talk in the kozi room can be translated into a disco, but sure...

The whole beacon shovel probe thing ....... safety in three words is just three word safety.

The least likely safety issue on a hike from Thredbo to Kosi is a life threatening avalanche. Its actually a never occurrence and if it was to occur at such an event then .... total risk assessment fail.

Sorry but its pure marketing bullshit.

I think you will find it is thredbo trying to advertise thier guided tours. Dont want to encourage people to do these things without paying money to them. Kozie is a flat walk that can bedone in a good pair of walking shoes. You dont need to spend $3000 in gear to be active.

Naaa. If you want to educate people about main range risks educate them about weather, navigation in poor weather and ice.

It's as sensible a requirement as requiring a beacon, shovel and probe for a skate around the 10k loop at Perisher. Objects don't improve your safety in the BC, good decisions do.

    This^^^^

If I’m not mistaken the last people to die on the main Range in winter failed on all these counts.
