Clearly you have met my mogul skier.
Years ago I ran an online magazine. My experience:
Was far to early to succeed. People just were not ready for an online only publication.
I really dislike those emags that are just online versions of print magazines. You need one if those awful readers, cannot navigate easily, have to zoom to read.... and lots more reasons why they are awful
One of my collaborators was from traditional print media. Could not get her head around a different format. This was one of our conflicts that led to her moving on
Getting content us the biggest problem
Next is working out how to monetise it
Did a 21 hour road trip recently. Set the car radio to scan. One station I found was someone reading the women’s weekly. Wtf?
You have to wonder why we no longer patronise them?
I look at the ski mags, well most mags actually, and really they have almost nothing for me except pretty pictures.
I first got into Powder mag for the brilliant photography - they were streets ahead of all others on that aspect. But they also had some very good writing and discussions specifically relating to skiing powder. Most other ski mags around at the time were more about advertorials promoting various sponsors and resort facilities etc than actual skiing.
