Whole lot of panic about something that may well not happen. Most rain will be in Central and Northern N.S.W. Has been this way all winter so why change now. Vic having some of it's driest periods on record. So get up there and enjoy the spring conditions.

So the Bo, this Saturday (possibly my last day to ski of the season) is it going to be a 9am until 11amer, because I'm a big r*** sook and need time to dry my gear before packing it up on Sun morning, or is it looking like a bit of a patchier/get up high and "she'll be right" sort of situation? Seems like this system is pretty dynamic...?

I predict that I will be going skiing regardless and that the skiing will be a _lot_ better than anything available after the snow melts in a month or two. Weather, particularly dynamic weather, is super-interesting but nothing beats actually getting out and amongst it.

Dynamic is right! Drizzly Saturday IMO. And I refuse to ski in the rain so nothing sooky about it ;)

IMO weekend won't be so bad. Might get away with only a shower or two.
Early next week though ..

BOM saying possible heavy snow on Monday for Hotham with Min 2 and Max 3. I have trouble working this out. If it was -2 and -3 I could understand. Anybody help me

YR.NO is showing considerable snow for the main range for this period.

Same with Buller. Maybe it will be snow on the roof of hut on Summit and rain everywhere else!

Main range is much higher than Hotham.
I can see 1800m and above doing ok. That's not helping Hotham or anywhere in Vic. IMO

I'm with CC on this one. Previously this year (well since June) there has been lots of cold air hanging around from previous fronts in the middle or upper atmosphere and that has been able to aid systems coming through, giving us some lower level snowfalls. I dont think that's the case so much anymore with this one, so it'll be interesting to see how it pans out.

I'm still getting the feeling most of this system will miss north, TBH. There's plenty of juice, but the axis seems to move further north as we get closer to the event.
I'd certainly be happy if this fizzed over the alps.

All I can gather out of this is the prediction for the next couple of days (with a focus on Mt Buller):

    1. It is going to be warm
    2. It will be windy (how often and where is unknown)
    3. It will rain (how much and where is unknown, but it hopefully minimal over the next couple of days)

Argh! Still tossing up whether to head up tomorrow morning or not. Few hours in the morning could be ok, just the wind potential.

Worst of the wind appears to be early AM Saturday
    [IMG]

But by the time you're on the slopes it's ok

To me it looks like chance of showers over the weekend, winds moderate, won't be too cold, so I guess the snow will be fairly soft. I wouldn't be pulling the pin right now IMO

Grasshopper says 52 cm at Hotham over the next week. Tom Saunders on Foxtel says 2cm mixed in with some rain. Big difference. Then again Grasshopper said 62 cm for Lake Mountain last week. End result was 0. Think I'll stick with Tom.

Maybe Grasshopper is like the kiss of death footy tipper in the newspaper where he tips/forecasts against the most likely outcome.

Note: Kiss of death gets them right occasionally

Won't be hard , have binoculars, will leg it a couple kms from tooridan ramp, scan horizon with said binoculars.
Did I mention it's a cracking day on the peninsula?
But not likely to continue looking at maps...

The start of august it pissed down rain for two days straight before it turned to snow. Im pretty sure Perisher got close to 40mm+ of mostly rain in the gauge. It'll be ok, just invest in a good poncho. Im starting to think you guys just like saying the word 'Pineapple'
