are status credits earned on flights booked with points?
I can't find this answer anywhere. Thanks!
Just looked up a previous flight - I think the answer is NO.
yep, the answers nah....
Classic reward seat = no
Anyseat reward = yes
Who waste points on an any seat???
We've got a tonne of points but never use them because we are always scratching for status credits to keep the service level. Anyseat rewards could be a good option for us .... better than just watching them accumulate. I'm sure Ansett members could tell me why that's not too smart.
Sometimes it can actually work out better.
A few years back when flying to USA, it worked out better for me to use any seat.
Classic Reward = 96000 points and $750 odd in taxes.
Any Seat Reward = 150000 points and $0. I also earnt 51000 points.
Unless its changed in the last 3 years. Anyseat rewards can be great.
I've never thought about the earn on these seats.
Anyseat reward is points + pay??
What are status credits & what can I do with them?
I've seen them on my ff bumff & wondered. But reading airline fine print is enough to make my head explode within 2 minutes with lousy english & so much double talk or ambiguous statements & different pages that either contradict themselves or refer you to each for the answer but neither page has the answer.
Status Credits: accumulate to certain level to progress to next tier of FF Status.
Bronze to Silver to Gold to Platinum to Platinum1
Silver: not much different
Gold: bit extra luggage and free Qantas Club
Platinum: major extra suck up. Extra baggage. More likely to get the points upgrades. Admission to First Class lounge on International travel or Business Lounge in domestic travel regardless of travel class.
Not worth chasing unless you are close and plan to travel a fair bit the following year also.
Was a major source of consternation the 2 years PB was Platinum and I was Gold. They'd bring him a bottle of water at the start of the flight, oh hello again Mr Bear, we are soooo pleased to have you with us again, please if there is anything we can do for you during the flight don't hesitate to ask..."
"Thanks. A water for my wife would be nice." Embarrassed looks all round.
I'm lifetime gold these days. Not bad, I rarely fly (anymore) and sell my guest passes on eBay for $110.
The amount of guest passes I've thrown in the bin...
Nah, for both. You can get up to $150. I've found it is a bit dependent on the expiry.
Yep, looking forward to that day...(probably still 4-5 years away...)
I used to chase the FF points hard when I was doing a lot of travelling for work. Looking back at it, I didn't do that well out of it. I think if you were to look at it purely from a monetary perspective, it wouldn't have been that good favoring one world at the expense of others etc. If it were my money...
I did much better with Starwood Preferred Guest points. There seemed to be less people at my level, would nearly always get upgraded to epic rooms etc. free stuff...
I only just got lifetime Silver, so I've got masses to go...
I'd be happy to sit at Gold though. QClub and extra baggage allowance is enough to keep me happy.
It always strikes me as weird that if you are flying business with platinum status you get access to unlimited food and drink before boarding, a pile of food and drink on the flight, then you can go to the first lounge in Sydney and order ridiculously huge meals before getting on another flight for another bingefest. Too much food! Its the economy passengers that should be getting access to the first lounge and having a decent feed!
Yeah flying for work I can choose whatever airline I want. Only reason for accumulating points is so my wife can fly for free and for points upgrades on non work related travel.
In the last 12 months my wife has flown to UK, NZ, Bali, Melbourne, Hamilton Island & Perth for free off the back of my points - so I guess it does pay to stick with the same royalty scheme.
a collegue i worked for gave me a Christmas give last year - free nights accom courtsey of his points.
He booked it in his name (me as his guest, so yeah looked like i was his lady friend...) i didn't care though because they upgraded him to a suite (yes an upgrade on a free room) and lounge access. they let me 'keep' it when they heard he wasn't actually with me...
kick it to me - kick it to me!!
Have heard though that they are actively trying to get around that... nowadays.
You can give them away to friends and family (hin hint LMB) but they are trying very hard to stop the selling loop hole!
Not sure I even got any last time..
But if I've got some hanging around I'll flick them your way. Usually I can take 2 friends in anyway, so no need for them.
yeah thats the funniest bit - people who get them don't need them!
I just dropped back to bronze.
Oh the indignity
The drop is hard.
I was most perturbed by that possibility recently. Thankfully there was a double Status points offer at just the right time
If you're close, you can just call up and say you're planning a lot of travel for the following year. I did that twice (from platinum). I think I was a fair way off actually. Third time they said, suck eggs. Politely.
Ours is "best available flight", but booked with Qantas
If you don't end up on a Qantas or One World flight, you can generally just change the departure date.
Good to know
Qantas are actually going backwards IMO when it comes to flexibility, refunds, changes, etc. They are acting more like an LCC. In fact, given how much more expensive they are than other air lines, it really does piss me off.
But then I guess that's why they're now making super profits (in addition to low oil prices of course).
I just realised its actually bronze.
Ive dropped 2 levels in 2 years
That is quite the tumble!
Maybe I should give you my spare QC Passes instead of @Ozgirl
So I can onsell them to @Ozgirl
Getting close to lifetime gold. 300 odd status credits to go I think. Need to pay up for an o/s ski trip. I like the idea of free lounge forever but the older you get the status stuff recedes in importance I think. It does make me choose QF flights though which I guess is what it is all about.
Read this week that instead of comping for those who may just miss retaining their tier, they’ve started offering a FF points amount to get you there. Apparently depends on both how many status credits away you are but also your last couple of years of history
I’m lifetime bronze
Most of the people I work with are platinum one or higher... (secret circle stuff)
One guy said to me once 'I can't wait for the day Qantas doesn't know my name...' he was deadly serious so I tried not to laugh when I said 'bt late for that when you are lifetime now'
Yah, did the same. Got punted back to gold this year though.
Am happy to have spent so little time in sardine tins over the last 18 months!
Platinum definitely has perks. When we were flying to AK in 2015, there were three of us booked in QF Business together, but one of the guys was a Platinum flyer (the other two of us were Silver). When we checked in they upgraded him to First and we had to suffer through in Business.
Flying home we all decided to put in for points upgrades to First - he got it again and we didn't
I haven't done much flying this year (other than within North America) so I've lost my QF status again but we have plenty of points so I've grabbed a seat in QFF First for when I come home in April next year ahead of the rest of the family. Works out quite well as I get to bring home 3 x 32kg bags of all our stuff as well.
Same here, but only when I'm not paying
Thanks for this thread, am now watching a heap of eBay items. I have a few free lounge passes from c/card deals, but not enough for all 3 of us.
I don't really like the lounge. I prefer getting to the airport as late as possible
The business lounge is busier than the main airport restaurants these days. Plus if you eat in one of the paid places you actually get a proper meal on a proper sized plate.
The only lounge that has any merit is the first lounge, and even that is very hard to get a table at most mornings. Massages are nice, though.
The Qantas lounges in Sydney are a wank. No real benefit, and you get better service/experience elsewhere in the airport. But once you have your P-plates you get into decent lounges like the HK Cathay first. Those are ok to lose an hour or 2 in while doing emails.
If you've got time between flights. We've usually only got time to do a quick airport lap to stretch the legs before getting back on the plane.
Somehow excruitingly long connections seem to come with the added bonus of no ff status and not a lot of spare cash.
I'm going to use them for longer flight connections (3-4 hours).
The scrooge in me likes the free coffee and papers and being able to charge devices ..not worth it probably but I like 'free'....
There's a decent feed to had in Qantas's HK lounge.
LAX lounge is like a cool bar.
The rest of them are shit.
It's been our aim to use award redemptions, for long haul Business Class travel. Our focus has been on gaining "free" premium travel benefits through points accumulation offers. Seems to be how QFF works now. But that won't get PB into the First lounge.
