No kiddin, I got a million things on this arvo but I need a 3-5 second bloody funny vid, with no watermark on it, that I can use to illustrate beginner skiing incompetence. Could be a snokwplow gone wrong, chairlift dismount, whatever. Facey, Youtube is fine, but as I say no watermark. Please please please help. It's for Ch 10's Sports Tonight and you will see your glorious suggestion on at 11:10pm on our show tonight. But if it's not in by about 5pm today, forget it. God speed, and thanks in advance.
That's the best thing I've seen all day. All week even. Especially the last one into the ski racks...
Yeah the ski racks one is classic. Its been across quite a few platforms , that footage. My daughter will be happy for the likes and views on our Youtube channel
Normally laughing at videos like those would be seen as gratuitous voyeurism. But most of us here would have had at least one ski prang comparable to those, so I think it's okay to laugh at the pain endured by others if we've suffered similar indignities.
Damn. If I'd had my camera going today, I could have provided new and never before seen footage of a newbie charging off the bottom of New Chum and slamming into the Township lifty's hut.
The @Donzah clip FTW. Thanks mate! I mean I would have got one of the many million on the internet from somewhere but u made the search easy and saved me plenty of time on an arvo when I had none. Appreciate it. Show on at 11:10pm if you manage to stay up.
I was watching the show thinking that the producers or editors could slot a ski prang into this segment or that segment and then one of the comperes said that he used to be a ski instructor and they showed a one second clip of a beginner skier having a prang. I know they have jobs as fact checkers and location scouts for TV shows, but it never occurred to me that there might be a role for a YouTube clip scout as well.
So Ch10 makes money off a free clip on the interwebs ... nice work Ch10, how about you pay for your content ...
Under “fair use”, you can use bits of footage here and there for editorial purposes without paying. We source stuff with permission wherever possible, and pay for certain material at times. There’s a discussion to be had here if you really want to have it, but this was two seconds of footage used in an extremely tangential context
I get that, and I understand that this is just a snippet of footage that in and of itself does not add value to your station. But I have seen so many of my pro photographer mates, even semi pro and pro storm chasers material get unashamedly stolen by the media that I am very cynical. The media constantly asks for "free" footage of significant events from the public and then goes on to make money off them. Why? Because they can. Yes you ask permission first (normally) but if permission is refused are you actually going to pay for something when 1000 other people will give it to you for free? Now I am not a professional media content creator, I am an engineer with a hobby but I've been guilty of providing content for free on many many occasions ... why? Because I know that there is zilch chance that the media will pay for it and I might as well get my small 5 seconds of fame from it. But does that make it right? In my opinion, no. You make money off it, you should pay for it, even if someone is willing to offer it for free. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-11-13/lightning-over-perth-during-storm/9143850 https://www.theaustralian.com.au/vi...rompts-School-Evacuation-in-Perth-February-15 The ABC is different ... I figure I own part of that so I'm always happy to contribute to it for free, but commercial media like Ch10 and the Australian ... IMHO they should pay, even if it is just $10 as a thank you. In Engineering we can get work experience students in and we do not need to pay them as it is something they need to do for their course ... but we ALWAYS pay them ... why? because it is the right thing to do ... perhaps the media should be a bit more socially responsible too...
That's a Sunkid brand Comfort Star lift, it's a sort of hybrid platter / handle tow. Mt Buller installed one a few months ago to replace an access rope tow. For that bloke the lift was obviously not a star at comfort. Well I've worked in reference, research and fact checking most of my adult life. But these days I'm reduced to taking jobs from the "gig economy". So if Ch 10 (or anyone else) is looking, I'm very good at that sort of thing and available for hire.
To add to Trapper's comment, I get particularly annoyed when people tell me that they should be able to use my content because I will get "exposure" (whatever that is). I have a simple rule. If someone is making a buck out of my stuff I want a share of that buck.
Since when did Channel 10 "make a buck" out of anything? They had a long and slow descent into deeper and deeper debt until recently when a new owner pumped some money in and stopped them going bankrupt. But there's no sign that they're even close to "making a buck" yet.
Can I introduce you to https://twitter.com/forexposure_txt? They make a speciality of ridiculing entitlement behaviour.
That’s horrific. She’s clearly terrified. How does that even happen? (And reading the comments it seems she stopped courtesy of a tree and broke some ribs)
first thing I teach anyone is how to stop. lay down uphill from your skis default. then we go to schnowplow . pizza ! French fries ! not.
