wow it is seriously snowing outside. From here at Friday Flat I can only see to tower 3 on Easy Does It, it is snowing that heavily. The snow tally is up to 70cm, we had 15cm from 9am - 2pm today. Go, go, go...snow, snow, snow

Absolutely puking down in the village at Thredbo still... been snowing most of the day with varying levels of heaviness - really started blizzarding in earnest around 1:30pm

I think they update at 9am, so that's likely to be 27cm up to 9am this morning.

Sun is trying to shine its ugly head through at Falls. Still some more snow to come tonight hopefully....really couldn't give an estimate of how much has fallen today.

I am observing that I am seriously upset by looking at the Mountainwatch camera and not being able to have a sick day and go skiing. Bottom of the Ridge in Perisher never looked better!

Looks like the weather will clear tonight but a bit more action before it does. Tomorrow will be all time but a bit of danger of slippage in steeper areas. I am awaiting a barrage of FB comments tonight about how good it is.

With Night comes the roads getting gnarly
    All directions
RTA advice: Reduce speed, Exercise caution
Other advice: Kosciuszko Road - chains are required from Sawpit Creek to Perisher.

Alpine Way - snow and ice on the road from Penderlea to The Diggins. Chains are required from The Diggins to Thredbo and on to Leatherbarrel Creek.

i am observing too much on the ski.com.au forums and not enough work at my desk!!! it is looking like serious dumpage! that radar (barnsdale) is soo deceptive to how much moisture has been delivered.

I observe that I have a big grin, sore legs and it is still snowing very consisently in Thredbo. Temps are just above freezing the the villlage, but the snow quality on the upper mountain was superb, not powder but the best Aussie chowder nature can provide. Wind was potentially a problem, but all lifts kept running all day.

Gusts of over 100km today at the AWS, so I doubt the gauge readings have been accurate.

Oops I can now see across the valley from the Alpine Way at Thredbo, so the snow has thinned a bit it is now only snowing very lightly. [IMG]

Looks like a bit more moisture heading to thredbo/perisher, might get some rain at lower levels, freeze level looks to be at 1600m at PB...

Not heavy rain but the precipitation has not stopped all day in Western Victoria, moisture should keep heading up to the mountains for the next 12hrs at least.

I'll make this very clear, the snow in Thredbo today was superb, but it was not powder. I have skied powder in Thredbo in 2005 i.e. the stuff you can swing a stock through, try that today and you risk bending your stock (not quite but.....).

Yes, not powder, quite heavy. But it's SNOW! Filling in all the nooks and crannies...

Still snowing moderately in the village as I type...

What a mad day at falls. All lifts stopped at lunch time with aki school brought down by skidoo. Snowing now for over 24 hrs here since our arrival. Wind made it very uncomfortable and the iCONIC summit chair never got going. Anyway the worst winds should be behind us. At least falls are honoring a refund for half a day. The snow is all over the place with the winds so not sure how much we got but its all good for the week.

At Dubbo here now, had some sleet on between Coota and Dubbo late this arvo on my travels. Outside temp was 1.5 - 2 C and very windy. Drizzle with sleet at times, trying so hard. Only happened for around 30mins of my drive at about 300m asl as the GPS was stating.

Light rain still here in Dubbo too.The cams look great, a day at the zoo and then here we come. Great SNOW finally.

Oh yeah. Have been watching the groomers for that last hour and a half over dinner, and can observe that International and Skyline runs have been fully groomed (as well as International Poma of course) and groomer is moving its way across to Summit area.

I thoght the snow at Thredbo was heavy. Then i stopped at Dead Horse Gap on the way home and though, nah this is heavier, then about 5 km's toward Khancoban it got really heavy. Never seen snow so heavy. As soon as you got out of the car you were pasted white. Heaps of snow on the alpine way, trees breaking under the weight of snow, numpties in falcon caught without chains. Snow down to about 800m and still falling as icy drops on the window at Tom Groggin (5-600m ASL). Then more around Scammel Spur and continued to near Murray 1 Power Station. That was all between 3-5pm.

Nah the low is spinning more moisture from the Tasman now..hence why the flow is warmer..
once it moves out and the air sinks it will cool down...

    On topic:

I observe Hothams and Bullers wind gauge must have vapourized due to the gale winds today, as they are both reading 0.

The good news is that the atmosphere is drying so there won't be much rain damage. At least there is a better base now.

If you wanna ski dryish snow in OZ you gotta be there as it falls. This morning was the moment. The moment has passed now. [IMG]

Light drizzle in Thredbo village all night. Doesn't appear to have been heavt enough to damage lower slopes, but geeze, a freeze afters yesterday's falls would have been nice.... IMO, I observe etc...... Must check out the freeze level on the mountian (will report back after extensive sampling).
