anyone been out to bogong, high plains, or similar spots the last 2 weeks or so? wondering how conditions will be for a spring weekend at the first sign of some clear/stable weather..
Skied Bogong on Saturday. All the northern & western aspects virtually devoid of snow, although you could have skied from about 50m below the top of Eskdale back to the treeline with one carry. Snow in the morning on the south facing slopes was heavy but OK. Even some of the south-facing stuff was getting v e r y heavy later in the day. Didn't go up yesterday but, looking up at the mountain as we descended, I think it might have melted a bit more/got heavier as the day went on. Will try to post a proper TR & some pics tonight. High plains looked very patchy. PS Thanks for the beta on Trappers Gap track conditions, r. Only thing we didn't bank on was a mountain bike coming off the roof racks on a particularly bumpy patch, but hanging on by the back wheel attachment to bounce around the back of the car instead of being thrown clear...ouch.
no probs. bummer bout the bike! keen to see some pics.. was hoping to get up again, but it sounds a bit grim..
Here are a couple of pics from Saturday on Bogong to give you an idea of conditions. A better TR to follow... Cairn Gully Saturday a.m. Michell Hut campsite Saturday morning... ...Saturday afternoon! gusc
Most of the snow was gone from lower portions of the Razorback (Hotham > Feathertop) late last week, although it did persist on south-facing slopes and some of the higher areas. There was enough to need snowshoes but not enough to be able to ski.
last weekend close to Hotham pics also, you will find a recent pic of Feathertop on Snowtalk, not taken by Heli but his name is on the thread title
