Had a mini cold snap a few days ago, so decided to check out Remarks.

There was about 15-20cm of snow on the last section of the road, but luckily a couple of vehicles had already been before me.

The snow cover at the Remarks is actually better now than when I last went up in August. In particular, the Sugar Bowl has an excellent cover.

This time, I decided to head over the top and out the back towards the Doolans. The snow was fantastic, although by the time I headed back, the fresh snow had turned to super glue, but the exposed faces were superb for laying down tracks and cruising.

Saw about 6 other people out enjoying the conditions. There were a few mini-avalanches near Lake Alta, but on the whole the snow pack was very stable.

Hey... a bunch of wanchors want to seal the Tharwa Adaminaby road!! heresy.

A bit like the road to Mount Ginini, eh? ... some roads should never be sealed.

That road would be a lot worse if it was sealed, and the maintenance required would be ridiculous.

Nice shots Tele. Damn been really hoping to get back over there, but given I have a thesis to write up and my snowboard is fcuked that is looking less and less likely. I was up on the Tasman Glacier over the last couple of days, will put some pics up sometime, the Main Divide is looking epic.

That looks fantastic. I was there 2 weeks ago (skied last 2 days at Coronet) but had a drive up the Remarks road. I thought at the time how the snow looked set for weeks of BC fun. Now you're here to rub our noses in it.

Bitumen? Why would you want to ruin a perfectly good rutted dirt road?

indeed a quandary, leave it unsealed for the summer rally enthusiasts, or seal it for the bikes

Certainly looks like a great road....

Remarks generally always has a good cover going into late spring.

Here's a pic of Shadow Basin from a trip I did on 17 Nov 2007.

and this is the view into the Wye Valley taken a few weeks earlier on 27 Oct 2007.

No link. Heard a local radio report. The road is allegedly so dangerous, with those manic fishermen and farmers in their trucks taking risks on blind corners.. its so dangerous... it needs sealing. Crap, crap, crap.
