    Auto renewal has failed for me, checked paypal in case cards out of date, that was all ok.
    when I click on the renew tab it takes me to choice of paypal or stripe thingy. click on paypal, wheels turn and it gives a message that " something has gone wrong".
    thoughts?

    yep,

    So it appears our PayPal account has been limited just the last few days as there is not enough business information held in our account details - we now have to provide a bunch of paperwork to unlock our PayPal account - which is going to take about a week as it will be manually reviewed. Long story short, I'm unable to do this online via the PayPal dashboard because business details entered from 18 years ago can not be user edited due to who-da-****-knows-why (PayPal is such a shitty system).

    I've been on phone with PayPal support for about an hour, I'm almost impressed with the call center service but the folk there have their hands tied on the way the system works - so for me, I'm done with PayPal in the long term and I won't be enabling it on XF 2.0

    @markopolo -> PM's pls.

    I completely forgot about doing Xmas gifts this year, probably because almost no one buys them. Maybe 4 sold last year of which only one was actually gifted.

    Credit Card via Stripe. The auto subscriptions work the same. In fact more reliable from my side. PayPal is now usurped for micro transactions, plus its legacy role as an escrow payment service just gets in the way technically. Few subscription services offer PayPal anymore and certainly none of the mainstream services such as Spotify or Netflix.

    So this snafu is a timely catalyst for dropping it, which is one less thing to build out with the XF2 upgrade.

    So if I switch to swipe will it charge me again?

    Should I just wait til it expires again?

    But happen before the above advice! I was wondering if I should set up stripe now (not pay pal, which is what I did it with before this thread was even created)

    Hmmm seems my membership has disappeared as well. I did not get any notification that it had been cancelled, first I heard was a message today saying I was near the 1000 free posts limit.... Oh well guess I have to set up a swipe DD.

    No. I'm not doing direct bank payments. There's no automation and it does not scale.

    Stripe is a just a Credit Card gateway like any other online shop. It is the MOST SECURE gateway going. Stripe is the payment gateway used by Netflix, Spotify, AirBnB, Booking.com, Shopify and a gudzillion others including a number of Google's SaaS products.

    Don't get confused by it's name. It's called Stripe here because we are too small an operation to get the service un-branded. So the button has to say 'Stripe'. But it's just a credit card payment gateway and it's perfectly safe and it's a shit-load less of an administrative hassle than PayPal - I've not had to deal with one single support request with Stripe, all the issues over the years with subscription payments have 100% been PayPal.

    Just like PayPal your credit card details never get passed to us - just a confirmation of payment token. Thus, this site can not be targeted or hacked for CC details - because we hold none.

    Yep, so you got in before the lock. The confusing emails from PayPal are just more example of why I'm done with them. So just wait until you expire in 10 or so months and renew (via Stripe) then.
