Regional Express (Rex) has released additional winter services between Sydney and the

Snowy Mountains (Cooma) between 10 June 2016 and 2 October 2016.

This follows Rex’s announcement on 19 November 2015 that it would be reinstating services to the region starting 23 March 2016 in time for the Easter break.

Prepared in consultation with Snowy Mountains Airport Corporation (SMAC) and local stakeholders, the additional winter services will provide much needed additional capacity for the winter ski season, with additional services on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

The year round flight schedule of five return weekly services provides 340 weekly seats, which will increase to 612 weekly seats from the June long weekend, and then 816 weekly seats during the peak season from the beginning of July through until the October long weekend.

Reservations can be made on the web via www.rex.com.au, by phoning 13 17 13 or through your local travel agent. The confirmed full schedule is shown in the Annex.

Regional Express (Rex) is Australia’s largest independent regional airline operating a fleet of more than 50 Saab 340 aircraft on some 1,500 weekly flights to 58 destinations throughout New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania, South Australia, Queensland and Western Australia.

The Rex Group comprises Regional Express, air freight and charter operator Pel-Air Aviation and Dubbo-based regional airline Air Link, as well as the pilot academy Australian Airline Pilot Academy.

Nice to have the option again, but I don't like the schedules much. Even on weekends with extra services, the last Sydney to Cooma flight on Friday departs 1425. If you're going to be off work by 1.00pm you might as well drive. The last return on a Sunday is a bit better at 1840. That's still early, and friends on patrol wouldn't be able to complete the sweep before having to leave, assuming 25 mins to Jindabyne and another 35 to airport, assuming they have a lift.

Perisher for us, but yes, that's the point. Days of old there was a late-ish flight each way, allowing a full day of work Friday, and a full ski on Sunday. It's a weird schedule, given that extra services are presumably supposed to cater to the weekend-away market.

Cooma Sushi Port to Bermagui = 2 hours 10 minutes at legal speed.

Only marginally further than Cooma Sushi Port to Perisher.

    **BUMP**

Has anyone taken any of these flights and can comment to practicality etc? Do you only get 15kg free luggage as per their standard baggage allowance, or do they allow extra for skis/boots etc? Any advice is much appreciated, I'm looking to fly home at least one day this season as my friends (and ride) are heading back earlier than I am, and I am tired of getting dumped at Central Station with a whole heap of kit at 12am by the Greyhound.

I flew with them in 2017 and they were excellent.

I was held up in Sydney for work on a Friday so my partner and the kids drove down a few days prior. They took most of my gear.

It was $17 extra to take ski's as oversized.

I caught the shuttle bus from the airport and was at Perisher by 11:15am. It was an easy way to travel. I would definitely do it again.

I've flown them, so have my wife and daughter(several times) we keep our gear down in Jindy, but the flights good and reliable, I know folk in the race clubs who pre book whole seasons flights, leave their cars at the airport all week and fly each weekend.

Assuming you are near a trainline in Syd, the airport isn't a bad place to land.

Nice one! Yeah i'm only a 13 min drive to the airport with a partner who's happy to pick up/drop off, so with the shuttle that meets the flight only taking 1.5hrs to Thredbo, and the flight only taking an hour, I've decided to give it a go myself this year :)
