Question Road Open to CP and ski-able BC snow?

They tend to close the road after the first big snowfall. You can often drive to Charlottes for the long weekend, but if snow falls while you are up there you will not be offered any help to get out. I have been there when unprepared people have had to get themselves down to Jindy and back to get chains.
Whether there is any skiable snow is a lottery. Look up high.
Maybe he meant avalanche. I did a bit of Googling of "Kunama" and found that Kunama Lodge is the only ski lodge in the Snowy Mountains ever to have been destroyed by an avalanche. :-/
"Kunama Ruins 1 – 2, approx 6 hrs, 8 km return Development of the ski resorts Thredbo and Perisher in the late 50’s/early 60’s was a spin-off of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Scheme. Prior to that ski enthusiasts had many lodges scattered throughout the mountains. Time and the ravages of weather and fire have taken their toll on these bits of our brief history in the mountains, but only one has ever been destroyed by an avalanche – ‘Kunama’ – the aboriginal word for ‘snow’. Nestling in the glacial cirque below Mts Clarke, Northcote and Lee, and therefore very well hidden, the stone foundations and some metal building debris is all that is left of the lodge which was destroyed by an avalanche that hurtled off the NW slopes of Mt Clarke in July 1956, claiming the life of a young woman, Roslyn Twynam Welche. Her memorial plaque is on the foundations."

I wouldn't be too worried about an Avi with first season turns, unless it's a huge dump - unlikely
Normally the aim is to have it open for the Friday of the October long weekend. This typically involves snow clearing efforts during the first week of Oct. They may open earlier if natural melt assists and less significant effort is needed to get the road back to black.RMS called me back today about road opening and said basically the following.
"We cleared the road early to enable the road to fully dry out ahead of making repairs to the road pavement that occurs most years. The final gate above SC bridge was also damaged during winter by oversnow vehicles and cannot be properly secured at this time, and as a result we cannot open the road to SC bridge until the gate is repaired.
Depending on how road repairs go this week the plan remains to have the road open to CP turning circle by the LWE."Other news - the Guthega-Smiggins link road is open, despite being listed as closed on the RTA site. The road is cleared all the way to the summer trailhead for the Illawong Walk at guthega, and you can park there. The Illawong track is walking about 80% of the way, and is very muddy in parts, so I recommend good shoes.Seems like all is on track for road to be open to CP by Friday arvo. Big effort from RMS in regards to snow clearing, still an impressive amount up there (road edge banks need trimming down to remove the safety hazard).
Some people will be pleased to know the turning circle toilet should be getting dug out by Friday also.
