This is part of my around the world jaunt to Japan, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, USA and Canada. The planning for this trip can be found here. RTW Part 1 - Japow can be found here. This trip report covers flying into Munich from Tokyo, getting across to Austria, staying at various places in Austria, skiing in Austria with (fingers crossed) a couple of quick side trips into Italy and Switzerland because I could . There's a couple of ski circuits I want to attempt in Ischgl and the Arlberg. If things go well, I'll go on a couple of guided tours too. There's even a slim possibility I might even catch up with a forumite for a ski in Lech.

Yeah that’s a good menu! Osaka to Syd business class in March just didn’t seem as nice. Will compare again in a week when I fly to Haneda.
Didn’t look back, didn’t notice. Not true actually, I’m always looking round and checking which hand is Norf & which is Sowf. And where my friends are. And I don’t remember too many flies on either Zeil or Woodroffe, tho I’m sure @DidSurfNowSki is correct there were some. I do remember the air was so clear. And it took until last weekend to pull i hope the last spinfex out of my boots and more likely the 2nd to last spinifex out of my gaiters.
Really enjoyed that train trip. In fact, I enjoy most train trips in Europe. Looks like they keep changing the airport - keeps it interesting.
@DidSurfNowSki .... Hey mate, trip looks good so far. I’m in Oberlech till Saturday if your in these parts. Lech, St Anton, Zurs and a few others. Cheers.
Using the free skibus from the City hotels or do you have a vehicle/ Khutai looks sweet atm (from the cams).
Bluebird today in Innsbruck. Left the bags at the hotel and headed up to Schlick 2000. The surface was hard, smooth and fast ! Some replenishment was required at lunchtime. The view wasn’t too bad either. All the action is really above the gondola and the run down the valley. Lots of people skinning up the hill from the bottom.
Made it safely to Ried. Pretty happy with the way the day turned out. 5 buses and a train trip all went smoothly. Had a snitty and beer for dinner. Tomorrow probably Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis.
Also it seems we had quite contrasting days at Schlick. Last year I had winter conditions in spring. You appear to have had spring conditions in winter.
Ok, I know I’ve skied in Austria before but this place continues to knock my socks off. Today I had a nice ski around Serfaus- Fiss-Ladis. So much terrain.... The highest point 2828m at the top of Masnerkoff. Due to the conditions everyone was staying on piste but the size of these runs are amazing. Today’s lunch and venue. A most fun day even though no off piste was suitable. Saw quite a bit of the hill. Run of the day run #7, which is the right loop. Take the gondola right to the top, turn right, ski all the way back down the hill. A real leg burner ! None of those short and sharp Japanese runs here
Yep. The contrast in scale and infrastructure between Japan and Austria is very stark. I also recall that feeling working my way from Fiss, past Serfaus all the way over to Masnerkopf - it just seems to go forever. I love both Japan and Austria but for different reasons.
The run down to Ladis is a pleasant little cruiser, but if you do it, do it in the morning as it does soften up in the sun.
Its quite a resort eh. Over the back side of Zwolferkopf is a good first up option too. The Rennstrecke ( speed trap ) next to Shongampbahn is a faster one than most other resorts provide. Black Piste # 56 recomended on the way back
I noticed you skied to the bottom of Lawensbahn. Some amazing steep backcountry on the opposite side there .
