On the grapevine,
Maybe for US military only ?
Anyone know more?
The US Epic is open to Australian and Canadian military members. It includes Perisher 2019, Perisher announced that you can include the tube to it as add on when the 2019 season is closer.
I haven't heard the same offer being put for the Australian Epic pass.
• Military Epic Pass:
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of the Epic Pass on March 18, 2018, Vail Resorts is honoring the epic service of the Company’s founders from the U.S. Army’s 10th Mountain Division, and the men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces, Canadian Armed Forces and Australian Defence Force with the introduction of a new $99 Military Epic Pass for active and retired military personnel and their dependents – an almost 90-percent discount to the regular Epic Pass price.
Additionally, as the first of its kind in the mountain resort industry, all other U.S., Canadian and Australian veterans and their dependents are eligible for a $499 Military Epic Pass, which offers more than a 40-percent discount off the regular price ($269 for children under 18 years of age).
Vail Resorts will donate $1 for every 2018-19 season pass sale to Wounded Warrior Project® to benefit wounded veterans and their families, which would exceed $750,000 based on last year’s sales.
Visit www.epicpass.com/military for all details on military pass options.
No British veterans
I've got a number of Australian military(permanent and reserve) friends who have already bought the passes for themselves and family.
Great deal. Will be interested to see if I qualify.
Wife and I are discussing an extended US road trip utilising the epic pass.
No ski hills in UK.
Especially none owned by Vail
USA Imperial war patriotism by proxy
Do you know if the reservists were able to get the $99 one? The website says the $99 pass is for Active/Retired but then also goes on to include US Reserve & Guard. I couldn’t find any details for the Australian eligibility
Are you sure?
No Vail owned ones. I imagine that would be part of the criteria.
Fair. Maybe they need to buy one. They'll be cheap, especially after Brexit
"In the U.S., this includes anyone currently serving in, or veterans of, the U.S. Army and Army Reserve, Army National Guard, U.S. Navy and Navy Reserves, U.S. Air Force and Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, Marine Corps and Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve. The Military Epic Pass offering also includes service members from Australia and Canada – details on military eligibility for the Canadian Armed Forces and the Australian Defence Force will be announced in full later this spring."
I note that, despite being based in a non-English speaking country, they managed to spell "Defence" right.
I also note that the RAN Ski Club lodge in Perisher is likely to see a big increase in bookings.
Just phoned the stepson to give him the heads up Thanks for the info guys.
"Details on military eligibility for Australian and Canadian service members will be announced in full later this spring".
We are still waiting on how we verify our service too. I wonder how easy the refund process will be if people can not verify or are not eligible.
I have a good mate who was injured during duty several years ago. Is he eligable and is then$99 pass available this Oz season ?
Yeah I’m wondering that too, before I go and pay for the deposit for it
I don’t know about eligibility, but it’s for 2019 Perisher
No it will be the 2018/19 US season and 2019 Perisher season.
A friend of mine who is RAN reserve but lives in Breck got it for himself and his kids by showing his RAN ID card. I've heard similar from others as well.
I read up on the retired member faq section and it says retired member (18+.yrs service) are eligible. Prices rise 3 Sep 18.
Has anyone bought a retired member pass yet and whilst i have retired member id card, what did you have to provide as evidence of years service ?
I was thinking printing off service dates from pmkeys (im aps on drn).
Has anyone done this ?
details might be in here
Australian Defence Force (ADF): a person serving 18 or more years in the ADF, or has qualified for this status through the ADF. They must have Retired Member identity cards – issued to all members separating from the ADF (reservists excluded) who have a Level 3 entitlement under the Career Transition Assistance Scheme provision contained in the ADF PACMAN Chapter 2."
Cheers Skull, that's where i was earlier today. l already have the id card.
I just need to hear from someone about how you proved your years of service ?
Maybe discharge certificate if you still have it.
The more i read it, the more i think all i need to do is show my retired id card because you can only get one, if you've done more than 18yrs and go through transition, which I did in 2005. Fingers crossed because it's a massive saving.
That's it. I've paid for mine and the family. Still waiting for details how to collect it! An absolutely massive saving!!
Did you have to verify when you purchased, or does that happen at collection ?
I don't recall sorry. Maybe we had to enter a service number but no scanning of IDs or the like.
Just back from Navy championships at Perisher and this was a key topic of conversation. Nothing seems to be consistent with some peope aready recieved their passes and others not hearing anything. I don't recall putting any ID numbers when purchasing the pass. I did have to specify that I was Australian military.
Back again for suggestions or advice.
I've purchased my retired pass, I've uploaded photo and release liability.
Got an email saying I had to verify my service details. Uploaded a pic of my retired member ADF id.
I've sent emails to email@example.com to confirm the pic is ok and to find out what they need for my daughter's pass but they keep getting rejected.
I've called every friggin number on the vail site but can't get thru to anyone. Every time it says they're busy and to call back.
Driving me insane.
None of the service personnel I work with have had any of these issues.
Got me stuffed what to do next and theyve said my pass will be cancelled by 30 Nov and my money refunded.
But I can't get hold of anyone.
Any advice ???
I am going through similar dramas. I have sent my ID in 3 times now and they keep saying my account has not been verified yet. I'm gonna have to call them on Tuesday
Had problems doing the verification on the laptop, site kept hanging at the upload documents stage. Tried on the phone and went straight through. Also recieved a reminder to verify email after I had completed the verification process and had the verification confirmed.
I did get an emai from sheerid but then it turns out they only look after US mil passes. Haven't heard anymore from them either. Probably in the too hard basket.
Got me stuffed.
This was the site I used. Give it a try.
Guess what turned up in the post today ?
Two Military epic passes.
Could've knocked me over with a feather. Id just about given up. Can only assume the photo of the ID was sufficient and all verified.
Did you verify it despot??? Just did all my stuff this morning
I am still having no luck with the verification process. I called Epic Pass this morning and they told me that they don't handle the verification process. It's outsourced to a company called sheerid. The lady from epic pass gave me their customer support email. Emailed sheerid and they replied by telling me that they only verify US Military and that I need to go through Epic Pass / Vail ... I'm getting nowhere here
I had issues doing the verification on my laptop. The site kept freezing at the upload stage. I tried doing the verification process on my phone and it worked straight away. Got an email a few hours later saying everything was good to go.
Yep. Uploaded the pic of my RAAF retired ID on 9Nov and included a copy of service record from pmkeys (had daughters details on it) and never heard anymore.
Post mark was dated 12 Nov from the US. Arrived here today.
I have no dramas doing the verification. I have submitted it twice. I have just never received a reply from it. Sent one through 3 weeks ago and 1 week ago.
Same. Never recieved anything to confirm the pic etc was ok. Sent it a couple of times as well. Then the passes just turned up.
OK hope it goes smoothly then
Talked to Vail again this morning and they admitted that there is no real verification process in place for Australians. Most staff are still clueless. I was just told that my pass has been printed and posted even tho I have not been verified. I was also told to bring my Army ID next time I wish to use the pass as evidence. If you have received the verification email it could be by error as sheerid cannot verify anyone besides USA Military.
I just received another one then. Its very ad hoc process. Not ideal!!!
So we got another email today. Seems that you need to verify each pass individual eventhough they all have the same pass confirmation number and I used the same document for all of us... All seems very adhoc.
Well after lots of emails, sending lots of info to prove my daughter was my dependant during my service days, this arrived in the inbox today.
Well had four of these in mail today
