High Range is a better indication of what the temps will do with that precip band, as it isn't affected by inversions. It's currently on 1C. Snow there is a possibility and also on the Gib, however I think the main SHs towns will struggle. This is consistent with reports of snow down to about Wentworth Falls in the BMs. You would need snow down to Lawson (700 m) for a fall in the main SH towns. Clear skies overnight brought about the low temps at Moss Vale; this inversion will break if and when the precip arrives.

Meanwhile it's nothing but sunshine and temps well in the positives down here. This is not the place to live if you want snow. We have hills above 1200 m here but even they barely had a dusting. Nimmitabel apparently clocked a foot of snow and the road is still closed to those without chains. Sigh.

Yeah agreed, higher parts are obviously more likely but I think there are some odd dynamics going on, as multiple PWSs in Blaxland (230m) at the base of the BMs is holding around the 3°C mark consistently under moderate rain. Will just have to wait and see

I think what might help us in the Highlands is that the rain band incoming is fairly heavy and may well drag down colder air. Now 1.1 at my spot on a hill in East Bowral with the frost melted in the humid air, reflecting my localised lack of inversion. Precip now at Campbelltown, should be here in an hour. Nervous wait....!

Low seems to be centred just about over Dubbo at present. Very windy here and we've had 40mm for the 24hrs. On top of 30mm last week there will be some very happy winter croppers and some unhappy mice. Hopefully some of the rain/snow makes it into Bathurst today. So many events where the lowlands are getting more rain that the upper catchment.

Bathurst is in a bit of a weather hole just like Canberra. The higher areas of the CTs get plenty of precip, especially the western fall around Orange.

Given the lack of wind with this precip band, it's possible that flakes could make it to the SH towns. This is the 'latent heat' process detailed by others. Bellambi however is in double figures.

I think that the Terry Hills radar is over-reading. The rain and passing over Sydney looks quite impressive on the Terry Hills radar. However, it barely registers on the Newcastle radar, while the Wollongong radar shows moderate showers moving through Sydney’s West, lighter near the coast.

Most falls in Sydney since 9:00 seem to be under a millimetre, none more than two.

===

Great snow pics above. Also good to see useful falls inland, some over 30 mm, including Dubbo and Coonabarabran.

===

Still impressively low temps around Sydney, OH still only 9°, just 5-6° in Sydney’s outer West.

I remember snow there during the 1985? Race.
When george fury took pole.

Edit

THINGS were a bit different when George Fury claimed pole position for the 1984 Bathurst 1000. For starters, Mount Panorama was covered in snow.
“As I drove into the track, the mountain was white and I thought `I’m not sure I want to be here’,” the long-time Nissan driver recalls.

Temp at High Range 1.9 and falling, must be flakes there now. Dropped to 3.5 at my place in Bowral from low 4's. Faint hopes for flakes remain, but i think the air is too saturated now.

Yeah snow kinda turned to chunky sleet while I was up at Mt Gibraltar when the heavy band came through. 3.1°C here now near Nong Bong racecourse, absolutely incredible! Coldest mid afternoon temp I have seen here in 20 years of living here

Now 3.4 here. I like the trend, but can it hold? Big ask to lose around 2 degrees at this time of the day unless we score a coldie storm, but no sign of those as forecast.

Its 8 (ish) degrees at my place with a moist onshore flow developing.
Normally that would be snow near robertson.

Max. temp of 3.9°C here so far in Bowral. Went up to the Gib (860m) again an hour or so ago and was very chunky rain with the odd flake mixed in, atmosphere very saturated. The odd icy splatter continuing on the drive all the that back into town (~670m). Rain moving onshore now, hopefully intense enough to drag down those temps!

Sydney has “lost” the opportunity for a new June record low maximum after it “soared” to 10.3° earlier this afternoon. It is now back to 9.4°.

Meanwhile Penrith (25 years of record) is still tracking well below its all time record low max for any month (8.3° vs 11.2°). Bankstown is equaling its all time low max (9.6°, 52 years of record).

What normally happens on days like today (stays very cold during the day) is that the cold air doesn’t stick around for too long, soon being replaced by an injection of warmer air, often from the SE. The record then shows an unremarkable maximum like 14 or 15. We’ll see at 9:00.

Heavier rain band inbound for SH. Temp at Bellambi has dropped from 12 to 10 so could be jussst enough for snow.
At Bellambi? That would be so nice to see. I really hate that it never snows down to sea level in Australia. I wish we were more like other countries where even the beach resorts get an occasional dump in the right conditions.

Has it ever snowed in Sydney CBD or Wollongong?

Exactly what is likely to occur I think. The warm air will be definitely down here tomorrow with temperatures well into the double digits. My max today was 7.3 but I think this will be easily beaten by 0900. Bombala AWS has the warm, moist air but Cooma is still on 1C. The snow at Nimmitabel wouldn't have gone anywhere.

We are finally getting some weather out of this system as the rain loops around from the NE, but rain is all it is with the temp just below 6C. The airmass is still a bit cooler on the SHs but I think snow there is a bridge too far now.
