@telecrag and myself heard on the dark net grapevine that it was opening weekend at Thredbo......so after years of training and meticulous planning we came prepared for all contingencies. An early bird catches the first chair on the ski lift. We decided to skip a warm up run on the resort’s easy green runs such are our honed and buffed muscles of steel(wool). We passed the weirdos on downward bound push bicycles and pushed through our painful barriers towards Mont Signature and it’s notorious unskied* SE face (*Nov 19) The access was technical, exhausting with telecrag cunningly circumventing the carnivorous alpine trout. He continued upwards and upwards even more Until we reached the fabled and feared vertical Hiliary Grass Step that guards the summit ridge. Luckily my Scottish heritage intrinsically came to our rescue as I dry tooled up up vertical turf with my Whippet, which was good! Unfortunately pride comes before a fall....literally. Luckily for moi telecrag reached into his amazing strength bank and dragged me into a first aid recuperative bivvy cave for a nanna nap, fortuitously we didn’t awaken the hibernating alpine dropsicle bear. Then it was extreme game on! Down and down and down we skied, lactic acidosis screaming in our legs, until we needed to rehydrate our escape craft after we exited to white room Til next year (or December) The end. Merry Summer!
