Some decent storms around SE Qld this arvo. 31mm fell at the Gold Coast Seaway in 15 minutes. Kind of missed us at Kingscliff (just on the NSW side of the Border). Any reports of hail or damage?

They were claiming up towards Eumundi hail stones the size of tennis balls on the news. Initially it appeared to be 3 distinct cells. One over the border ranges, another near Toowoomba and the third up along the Sunshine Coast.

Impressive. Good shear, about 1000 CAPE, minus 6 LI's and dewpoints of 15-20. A sea breeze moving over some inland topography. Tewantin RSL near Noosa copped 20mm in 15mins, pretty good considering how fast they were moving through.

Surface winds also got fairly interesting:

On top of the Ben Lomond Range they had 30cm of hail yesterday afternoon, with drifts accumulating of over a metre! New England Hwy was closed for 2.5 hours to clear the black ice.

yeah good analysis quro, LI's seem a bit high compared to totaltotals and CAPE for this one, maybe u can explain to me why that is. Im still waiting for a 3000+ CAPE to connect with some moisture

    nothing like thunderstorm season [IMG]

I was driving around Ashmore just after the storm hit, and saw some smouldering bushes on my left then looked to my right and a tree on the right hand side of the road was on fire.

No power lines down, just lightning hit them apparently.

My g/f's uncle lives in Springbrook and he said he had golf ball sized hail that made drifts of around 1 foot deep.

We were in Elanora on the Gold Coast at the time and got caught outside in the rain. I havn't seen rain that hard in a long, long time.
