I laboriously type in "Listening to right now" for example: nada nuffin.

    Just this.

Maybe no-one was listening to you at the time?

The term in quotes. "Listening to right now"

I recall this xenforo search engine disliked overly short search terms - four chars or less? combined with members who start mischief threads with very similar titles... led me to enter a longish term. Which fails. The one word term "Listen" works however.

    Aaah.

I think the browser is the issue. These images tell the story. I was able to succeed on Chrome on Android on my S8 phone. On this Galaxy Tab tablet, I get the error. Using Samsung's browser.

I get exactly the same result, but if I left click in the search box after typing in the search text, a drop down box appears with various options and if I click on the "Search" tab in that box, the search then works. Using Chrome

I go to active topics and as soon as I hit on a topic that (active topics) disappears from my choices at the top of my screen ..........to the right of members ....I just get .... now
I then have to go back to the forums choice on the far left and use the drop down to get newest posts and then it appears again

Anyone know why this is occurring ?

I think this is a side effect of the recent shuffle of forums, blame the weather.

    That is how it works.

If you just fill in the search field and hit the search icon adjacent the search fails. If you do what chrisj states it all works fine.

The search function has been like that ..... forever, roll with it nerds.

Ziggy, the forum search got upgraded, it's very good now. Google can not see anything in Apres topics.

    ahhhh,

The devil is in the detail. I just hit the enter button on the keyboard and that works.

What kind of narrow result would you expect with just four characters even on Google?

Also, no need to put in quotes on the upgraded search, quoted or unquoted phrase is the exact same set of results.

You IT nerds. I put quotes into my post on this forum page, so you could see precisely what I entered into the xenforo seach dialog. For clarity. but the real miscreants here are the folks who mimic thread titles, to create mischief. There is the listening example, and the many threads of rage...............

And why can't forum navigation behaviours be exactly the same on every permutation of browser, device, op sys, generation of browser and format of smartphone or tablet? :D ;)

FWIW that exact search also brings up the "What are you hating listening to right now" thread, which I presume is the cause of your rant against parody threads?

@Richard, do + and - switches work in forum search, like they used to do in AltaVista?

Computer says no. "+Listening -hating" doesn't filter out the hating listening to thread.

    God I miss AltaVista....
