Worst since 2006 ? (So far)
Hard to tell. Last year was pretty bad, too.
We had a good fall the first week of July and then it went downhill from there. The weather is becoming more and more unpredictable , see the 'huge dumps' ( by Australia standards) at the end of Sept/Early October of the past few years.
It seems that more often than not it snow either too early or too late.
116.7 cm @ Spencer's Creek on the 26/7 would probably be around 'average' I would have thought. 2006 had a peak depth of 85.1cm. Remember that 2010, which many would consider a good season, only had a depth of 35.9 cm at the start of August.
Spencer's Creek snow depth has little relevance to LM though. LM benefits from the southerly airstreams, while Spencers Creek gets its snow from NW airstreams. Zero snow depth at LM on 26/7 was certainly not 'average'! While 2010 was a poor year for northern Victoria & NSW, it was quite a good year for LM and the other southern Victorian resorts.
First 10 pics 2011 , the rest 2010
Sorry all, my bad. Didn't realise we were talking about LM.
Snow on the cams now, maybe more tonight and even tomorrow. Fingers crossed.
This season is tracking very similar to last season in my memory. Early start (snow on QBW 2011 and school holidays 2012) and barely any falls after that with no snow on trails by mid-late July. If we dont get anything else for the rest of the season, I would say both are on about a par. 2006 could not have been significantly poorer because you cant get much worse than last year.
2010 - Bumper season for LM, best since the early 2000's. Snow would come, for a week or so, we'd loose it and then 2-3 days later it would come back again untill late July when it dumped. I was skiing till end of September with good snow.
Thats my thoughts on the last few seasons anyway...
Saw this on LM website today:
PLEASE NOTE: Lake Mountain are currently experiencing some technical problems and cannot make changes to live webcams or snow conditions. If you have any enquires regarding the conditions, please call admin: 03) 5957 7201
Can anyone vouch for this? Or don't they want us to know about the very poor conditions?
That's a conspiracy theory, dude. But I did wonder myself. Where is teckel, who will no doubt know more than most?
It's for real. The Telstra tower is somehow stuffed. Landline working fine, but that's about it. The get it up and running and it crashes again within the hour. Seems to be hardware related.
Better be up and running by Friday.
Cams updated this morning, showing fresh stuff on the trails.
Glad all forecast for today were wrong , not supposed to snow so low so early , let's hope they are wrong for the rest of the week too.
Looking really good now. Here's hoping it keeps up.
