Ripped from Vic Storm Chasers.
Kelvin-Helmoltz clouds at Paddys River ACT
Been raining steadily since lunchtime but a short and heavy snowfall in PV just now. Back to sunshine for the moment
Did I call it quits too early then?
Not sure, were you here?
It's been dry since the snowfall. Heavy clouds still lingering but the sun is breaking through pretty frequently.
I pulled the pin when that shower came through about 2pm. Still got two more days though
Why no predictions thread for this period? BOM's forecasting white stuff for LM over the next 2 days.
I guess everyone has lost interest. Looking like 5-10cm through Wednesday.
Lost interest over 5-10cm? That would have been epic last month for LM. A shocking, shocking winter.
How far north?
NSW resorts should get some.
Sounds good to me
Looks alright to get the snow surface ready from a dump. Definitely good from a LM perspective.
Trouble is, every system this winter favoured the northern resorts. There were none that came directly from the south. The one above is no exception.Coming from the south too far west, then dumping r*** from the NW
Absolutely. As they say in the footy " Always next year ". If the area can survive financially until then.
Some small cells working their way through Melbourne. Could be building.
Is it going to hold off for me to go for an arvo run at 5:15ish?
50/50 if you get stuck under one of those small cells.
Just had a 5 or so minutes of moderately heavy rain here in St Kilda rd, but the sun is back out.
Just had a few cms on feathertop. Clearing a bit now but might have some more inbound later.
Cheers, ill check the radar when I get home and see if I can get a 30 minute window
What's it like up there?
I observe it is gusty and lightly snowing and sleeting in the Ramsheads....cold.
Looks like a rain band will hit melbourne between 5 & 6pm.
Looks like the heaviest rain is gonna pass over the bay and miss the CBD.
Raining good like now in Elwood.
Got my run in just in time, could see the dark coming over the bay.
Nice band developed behind the initial rain, has a nice sweep to it
Pouring in Canterbury
Pretty ordinary with low vis. Got some good skiing in. Next week should be good.
I agree - ESP for the smalls.
In fact I can't remember a good consistent season (ie 2-3 months) at LMtn or BB in the last Decade. 'A' good month perhaps but not 'season'.
...the thin edge of the CC Wedge?? Perhaps?
...your know of course it's the end of the season - it's snowing today! At least at Buller!!
...hang in there Tecks - we're well overdue a goodie. ⛷
Is the longitude of the lows connected with CC? Latitude - I agree. But longitude?
If you've noticed systems have been peaking over WA this year. I suspect that's more to do with the Indian Ocean dipole, but who really knows.
IMO a traditional winter will see systems peak over WA early and then tend to peak over the SE later in winter.
But what's a traditional winter these days?
Heavy rain here in Canterbury for the last hour or so. 10mm in quick time.
Echo the same observation here in Frankston. And the temp has dropped too
There was sago on and off all day today at Perisher.
Got a bit of rain in Tolmie- looks heavier down in Melbourne judging from the radar
Yep , pissing down!
Really intensified as it crossed the city.
Pretty clear cold night generally in Canberra. Spotted Venus earlier and I think Jupiter with my 10x binos can usually spot 4 moons around Jupiter with my 60x spotting scope but couldnt keep the binos still.
Good solid 4hrs of rain in St Kilda
Hotham looks white this morning...
10cm in Falls
@Warlock_01 - that's what is on the table next to Halleys. Must be nicer up top.
Dinner Plain this morning
Must have got close to 10cm overnight
Whoops.....second time lucky!
4mm in the gauge in Bendigo... it then cleared and we got a frost that iced over the bird bath. Already the wettest September on record here with plenty still to come.
15 mm overnight in Melbourne's inner NE. Better than expected.
Emptied out rain gauge with 90 mm so far this month in preparedness for the deluge next few days?
This September is certainly different to last years.
Venus yes but not Jupiter tonight as it is conjunction with the sun today.... W
Snowing nice heavy flakes in Thredbo Village right now.
Showers and drizzle in camberwell.. Moist
Had some solid showers around between 12:30 and 1:30 here in St Kilda rd, but clearing off now.
