For those who want a Japanese vibe her in Shiga Kogen i can highly recommended this hotel!
Food and location of dinner was just great and I do mean GREAT!
We were shown to a different part of the dinning facilities with new Japanese designed booth with perfect acoustic, so som warm sake was added. And the attendant was interested as he had stadig language and we spoke in German.
Please notice wifes beer if already half empty before starting dinner:

While I am more modest with a tiny unit.

Want to tried the wife? No beds and sit on the tatami. But futon is made for you while you are dinning.

    @elSpike

And as you flashed you new Hesta gloves so much in your TR, here is how they look after 10 years, but as I am very clumsy with my fingers - wife found these 3 fingers more suitable for me:

Think I need to buy new ones in ten years time to keep up with fashion. LOL

Today we had Sukyaki and there is no problem eating it without raw egg! Even the wife does not take raw egg.:D

I had raw chicken in Kyushu that was a bit different but as we had dinner with some relatives I did my best.

Sorry have not calibrate the car-o-meter as we have no car, but it is still snowing lightly here in the morning.
Wind NW not that strong I think.

But started calibrating for this evening:

Now in Tokyo and seen the good news about the snow! Thanks for the update Hyst! Bags are black catting their way to Okushiga and we have today to spend in Tokyo. We have tickets for a concert at NHK hall this afternoon and then tomorrow we'll travel to Shiga kogen!

Forgot my phone at the hotel.

Yesterday was great day. During night there was a little snow.
At Takamagahara at present coffee break. Coffee is a bit better here.

Do not know how to use this phone so no pictures of me today!

Very jealous of all of you on or about to be on the mountain. It’s pretty sweaty here in Singapore. 28°C and:

@Hyst if you make it to the Teppa Room in Ichinose, make sure you try the “The Far East” barrel aged IPA. It was absolutely outstanding. I’m trying to figure out how to ship some to SG now.

Thanks to all for contributing to this and other related threads. On the back of these, we are now looking to spend a week in Shiga next season, instead of Hakuba, having just booked flights for mid-Jan 2021.

I am trying get an understanding of accommodation options and prices.

Could you guys please share with us your experiences?...
    • Where you have stayed
    • Cost
    • Type of room
    • If you would stay there again?

It just me and the wife, fortunately no kids this trip. Looking to stay for ~7 days.
In Oz we tend to stay mostly in Jindy and travel each day, so we are looking forward to staying on-snow.

Having read through @elSpike's thread, Chalet Shiga is on the list. It would be great to hear everyone's experiences.

    Many thanks.

You already have mine. Have stayed at Chalet Shiga and Prince West. Both are on booking.com so you can get indicative pricing. They usually open up availability 3 months out, but you can go through booking agents (we’ve used Japan Snow Accomodation every time) and sometimes get a booking earlier.

For just your wife and yourself, stay anywhere in Ichinose. Any standard tatami room will do. You’ll spend so little time there.

Yesterday was Saturday and we had expected more people out there, but were surprised there was not much difference to week days.
Snow is still a lot better on the westside of the valley and all the way up north to Okushiga.
Okushiga is a nice place where you somehow feel a bit out in the middle of nowhere - do ubderstand @sn0wbunny29 attachment to the place and a bit like the part of Åre were we sometimes stay.
Sun valley was a disappointment in the morning - windy and not much cover over a icy base.
We header stay a bit on Nishitateama and headed for Terakoya, but redecided after runs on Takamagahara because wind clouds higher up.
So once again we ended up skiing the Prince and Okushiga areas with their best lift facilities in Shiga Kogen.

Coming from Europe we generally find the chair lifts in Shiga Kogen a bit antic and slow, however that is not important for us here.

Sunday the strong wind should be gone and we would like to try Terakota area once again, as we had god snow there the first day before the snowfall.

Manday wife has planed a combined on ski onsen trip - going to be interesting in and out of skigear more than once a day.

Look forward to get some help on here the coming days.:D @sn0wbunny29

And dinner was in the unfortunate large dinning room with bad acoustic again.
But as we did not think about different "plans" when ordering we have to live with that.
The dinner nice as everytime, but only on type of the local beer available at dinner.:(

    This morning car-o-meter=0 :(
    But the wind is gone.

In fact the wind was so strong the last days that on looked like a snowman on the top of the head sitting in the rotenburo. Roof did not help neither the net to keep the monkeys away.:blb:

    Breakfast view was excellent:

And a lot of the noisy groups seem to have left this morning. So breakfast is nice.
    :out: skiing.

I'm on my way! Shinkansen booked, bus stop memorised, all being well should be there by about 4pm and happy to take on some of the responsibility! Happy to hear that the snow is good our end of the valley!

Today we followed our plan for Terakoya area and skied the "area", Ichinose, Hagashitateama, Happo Bunadaira and returned to Terakoya many times. Weather was nice no wind and almost blue bird.
In the end we were separated as wife followed a other red jacket - black trousers skier. I suspect he just was younger.

She walked home, while I intended to take the Hasuke lift to get home, but was very distracted by huge number of high school giggling girls in ski school that i twice mist my excit and had to do the Hasuike lift over and over again.
    Today a bit tired.

Sorry, we did not pay attention to that. But the road around Shibu toge Hotel was with snow, and it looked like the road towards Manza had been used pistbully or caterpillar transport.
But no idea about the avalanche tunnel around Yokote.
The indicated piste on the road was used by skiers.

    Thank you for organising this!

We skied as far as Itchinose today which was enough for the legs! Snowbuck has had no problems with depth of field etc so we're good to go for the rest of the week!:woohoo:
    We're aiming for Terakota tomorrow.
Lunch was a very tasty pizza here:

After skiin Sibutoge and Yotoke we had a pitstop in Kumanoyu to enjoy the green radion onsen, before bus home to Hasuike.
Kuma means bear and I had to fight my way to get to the hot greenish onsen.

Komanoyu Hotel was on of the oldest onsen hotels in Shiga Kogen.
And the water is quite smelly, but nothing like Zao.
Coming down from Yokote it is interesting to see few holes in the snow from hot air coming of the ground.

After coming home the was of course time for an other onsen followed by afterski beer with four from Finland.
In fact we here an ther skied together during the day.
Thanks to @Sandy for the tip of keeping speed on the Kumanoyo to Yokote connections.
Dinner was great again and soon afterwards we are going to fall asleep -on half of us is already gone - ever through she wanted to see 20:30 news.

Loving your posts @Hyst. I can pretend I’m still there reliving it all, instead of working!
