Yes there are zero posts on this site and too busy to waste time taking pics! I hit Fernie a few weeks ago amongst their daily 30cm dumps I don't think I even looked at my phone for the first 3 days! Loved it

Do you prefer Fernie or Shiga?? I realise they are completely different to each other.
Chalet Shiga is good, we were there 12 months ago:cheers:

Oh wow hard question both with their specific plus', shiga is great for on piste environment, food, quietness, the beers at the Teppa Bar downstairs, the elevation, some nice but slightly limited off piste / backcountry options etc I find Fernie great for lift access off piste right at your finger tips, great small quiet country town feel, obvious endless cat skiing and touring etc, shiga is obviously cheaper and closer, if your looking for some guided touring or cat skiing in shiga seek out a mob called bigcloud at the prince hotel west we had son great days with those guys touring a lot of untouched pow. So the way I would choose is if I had to take leave early in season ie Dec-Jan I'd take Fernie if I could travel late Jan -Feb I'd take shiga. Hope that makes sense.

It's been a great week, and we are sad to leave tomorrow, but off to Myoko Kogen. The kids did 2days ski school in Okushiga with the Shiga International Ski School, and they did improve. We would recommend it if anyone else is looking. Also thought I'd let you all know that the curry house/Nepalese in Ichinose is back in business. Delish. I did take a pic...

Looking for the nagaden express bus time table Nagano station to Okushiga Kogen hotel. I know it is the forums somewhere but having trouble finding it. Have an old one from prince hotel site but wanted to confirm the times are the same this year! Any help would be much appreciated!

I had a look and the best I could come up with is this link

I found it difficult to read, as it's a poorly designed site.

We were super impressed with Shiga even with a way too short 3 day stay. Massive area to ski, spectacular scenery, convenience of staying on snow, with great snow and no crowds. I'll be back for sure!

If anyone is interested in some nice footage and info on Shibu Onsen, there's a couple of good short YouTube videos. Not sure if it's appropriate to link as they're not my videos, but if you google "Travel Beans Shibu Onsen" it's the first thing that comes up.

    Hi, first time post

I have booked at Diamond Shiga in Ichinose for two week's time. Hopefully the snow keeps coming. Any advice on that hotel, the best way to do transfers from Narita (bus or train/train/bus?) and where to rent skis/poles and where to buy lift tickets would be greatly appreciated!!!

[we do have the option to switch to okushiga kogen, if anyone reckons that is a good idea]

I'm at Okushiga Kogen and had a great day today but I recon that you'd have a ball wherever you are. It's snowed lightly on and off during the day with spells of sun and hopefully there'll be a dusting more to freshen everything up for tomorrow!

Another fantastic day at Okushiga Kogen. As above with the weather conditions. There is so much powder there is no bad place to ski!

Fabulous days skiing beginning with a snow cat tour to the top of the mountain at 6 am to see the sunrise and then ski down to breakfast. After that I spent the day enjoying the sunshine and masses of terrain. Now resting my weary legs and waiting for the next fall of snow to freshen everything up!

I'm considering Shiga Kogen for a 2018 trip. Will probably be going to Kyoto for a few days first. Am I right that this will give me a chance to use the Black Car service to send my gear up before me and then it should be fairly straightforward to get there on trains and then a bus from Nagano?

Any idea for a rough estimate to send a fully packed snowboard bag with skis, boots, helmet etc?

Should be less than 2000 yen with Black Cat. Maybe 1600.

Thanks Sandy. Will be worth it not to have to lug my skis between trains and buses. Had some interesting experiences with them in Europe! You'd think a train from St Anton to Zurich would have room for skis and boards LOL

Cost us approx double that but that included 2 pairs of skis and 2 pairs of boots. Distance would have been further too - not sure if that makes a difference.

Depends on distance, snow conditions, etc....but rule of thumb, anywhere between 24-48hrs.

    One final question
Anyone know where I can get my board waxed in shiga kogen?

Snow was wonderful fluffy and light this morning.
Turned to heavy powder with a bit of slush on top too due to the sun today tho

The hire place near the Ichinose bus stop, they have a dummy dressed in ski gear sitting in a folding chair out the front, haven't used them but they do hot wax 2000 yen.
