So we started Christmas early this year, as my sister in the states is anticipating a few busy weeks at John Hopkins. We zoom in and set up our trees together as a family and whilst it would be nicer putting up the tree with a glass of red, coffee substituted, just!

As the decorations came out we reminisced about places we have been, my wife has a Christmas decoration problem and tends to buy a decoration at each resort or holiday destination we go to. Now it’s fair to say some of the decorations aren’t out yet, apparently glass blown baubles and a one year old kitten don’t mix.

So with very few of us likely to have a white Christmas, I thought it might be nice to post pictures of your tree and or favourite decorations.

whilst not exactly a tree, my fireplace garland is my favourite with snow flakes from around the world.

Oh your hearth decoration is lovely!

I did a massive cull of Christmas stuff last year when preparing to sell the big family home. MIL took my Christmas tree and all my cast off bits and pieces and has already put them up. PBs birthday is 18th of Nov and she ALWAYS does Christmas decorating on the 19th.

We are buying a real tree from a Xmas tree farm this year that we will go and cut down in early December - do it now and it won’t survive through Christmas.

I have kept the memory, gifted and collected from overseas decorations. And I (despite efforts to give away) still have the Santa Village pieces that we bought one year to make a massive Christmas train/village display. I’m
Thinking of placing them through my new garden... will come back to this thread with results once done.

It’s not really a problem except she makes me stop every trip to the snow at the Christmas barn in Bredbo as well. That was getting very expensive....

I actually like the bauble thing, she has some awesome snowflakes and baubles from different destinations, just shoved them in a boot to get them home!
Ha!!
You’re lucky.
Car to bring them home in and it for your wife who is in the car with you.
I’ve had to go there for @gareth_oau and bring a huge moose thing home snuggled up next to my snowboard as a splint for safety on a PLANE.
The very limits of friendship LOL:p

My wife does that. She even did it once in Thredbo in June. Whose brain does that?????

Rule at out place is no decorations up until Dec 1. Hard to hold back the DIL who is nuts about decorating for any holiday. I pit up and test the exterior lights in November though, not a fan of climbing ladders with snow on the ground. But they aren't switched on until December comes in.

Usually put the tree up on Dec 1st. This year no one seems particularly excited about Christmas in my house. We will probably get around to it later in the month. Everyone is too busy making up for lost time socialising to think about Christmas.

The Bredbo Christmas Barn seems to hold a legendary status; I have yet to get there. Need a few extra decorations to make up for the ones attacked/broken by various cats in recent years. Hope to get the tree up this weekend.

actually they will really struggle to make it to Christmas! Sure queues are long but was chatting to a staff member in there (funnily enough they recognise us) and they said they have a few shipping containers stuck that won’t arrive till next year.

After a change in personal circumstances a few years back now, I found myself flat broke. Went down to the dollar shop and bought a tree that was about 30cm tall, some cheap battery powered LED lights and 1 strand of tinsel. All up cost about $5. Best Christmas tree ever everything considered !

After Christmas was over the manager of the woolies store asked me if I wanted a free tree when I ducked down to get some milk. A huge tree that is almost bigger than me. Going to get it out for D20 to put up today :)

How lovely!

Was that a random thing or was he aware of your circumstance at that time - either way it’s nice - just changes it from a random act of awesome to a deliberate act of looking out for a customer. Both wonderful in their own way.

I’ve started putting out my Christmas stuff in my front garden. Lights went up today, power cables run, little figurines placed around...
I think another few hours work, and could probably do with more bling...

But I thought you lot would like this section.

Fair chance Santa won't make it all the way around this year either, all those border controls are going to make it tough for the old fella!

Ok so approx 30 years ago PB and I went to a YMCA tent and bought a scraggly little pine branch and plopped it into a household bucket of wet sand. Was abysmal.

Since then it’s been a series of fake trees.

This year we decided WAY back to get a real tree. PB keen to get a nice big one from a Xmas tree farm and be all lumberjack and cut it himself blah blah. Well, we got a 2nd male involved. Disaster. PB gave him one job - find out how early we can go pick the tree, what’s the longevity of a cut tree, and lock in a date for us to go get it. (Other guy wanted tree also and wanted the outing/company/lift with the Ute etc)

First he tells us doesn’t open until 1st Dec (turns out untrue), then cancels the weekend visit as he made new plans to go down south with other friend at short notice, so yesterday it was. Well Sunday PB touched base with him, we all sorted? Where we headed? I’m picking you up in the morning? Response half an hour later “oh shizen, they’re all sold out”.... WTF.

anyhoo, long story short, mate did bubkiss, I googled and found a place, sent he and PB out there with instructions to find out how we can stand it properly - the old sand in a bucket my parents used to do for the YMCA trees wasn’t optimal... see if there is a stand or something you can buy while you’re there. Well, they guys said stand it in a bucket of water with bricks either side

He gets to mates house with this tree and he has a STAND!! Never gave us the heads up about buying a stand which are plentiful online but can I find one in a store in Perth?

FML

So ... here’s the tree so far...

my step-mother-in-law used to do crafty things with emu eggs
she’s 100+ now but might still be doing it
she gave this masterpiece to my offspring about 25 years ago

it’s been hanging around the house ever since
offspring now living in USA, possibly permanently
spouse dislikes her stepmother, not because she’s the stepmother but because she’s an old-fashioned Qld bigot, as was the late father
it’s a dilemma: are we obliged to use the thing in our xmas tableau?

Absolutely NOT.
No one is ever obliged in circumstances like this.

It is a very clever piece of handiwork, and I quite like it. It would come out on my table, but if there was negative emotions around the people involved I’d probably bubble wrap it and store with the other inheritables, or pass it on to offspring/ask them what they want to do with it, or give it away to someone who loved it.

we have some gold plate wine goblets from our wedding, apparently they have some significance but they have never seen the light of day at our place and never will.
