Apart from the TCs, It looks like a bit of rain might be coming!!
Yeah. Very hazy, but I can't smell it. Could only be from the fire on the other side of the Thomson Dam.
I can smell it!
You must have a very good nose then! I've mentioned it to 3 others this morning. Only one of them said they could smell it earlier in the morning, but no longer. Regardless, we're far enough away for it to be of no direct concern to us
Oops! That said - the smoke's getting thicker, and there is quite a strong smell in the air when I went outside just then.
7 False alarms on the CFA website - obviously triggered by the smoke - South Morang, Wattle Glen, Kangaroo Ground, Flowerdale, Kilmore East, Gembrook and Tallarook
There is a small fire at the bottom of our road!!!
Wow..that monsoonal low has really developed in the past couple of days in Northern Queensland
If the models pick this correctly there will be some major flooding in Western Queensland again
Yeah. I was in the truck on my way to it, but we got a stop message. All out now?
Yep! Only a very little one. The wind blew it into the buxton-marysville road.
That was convenient What started it?
Don't know - IMO it was probably a cigarette.
Got some pics of it.
Very smokey/hazy in Melbourne today.
Thanks for the pics. So the standard response of 3 trucks was called (Buxton, M'vill & Taggerty) - that's fine. But then they called out 3 more (Narby, M'ville 2 & Taggerty 2). That was dumb. Pleased we got turned around.
GFS has a strong system coming through Friday, perhaps even snow in Tasmania later in the day
EC is just suggesting another dry cool change.
Given what we've seen this summer, IMO EC is closer to the mark.
Ok, perhaps a bit of a break in the SE (NE, E Victoria, Southern NSW, ACT)
Friday, Saturday look wet.
EC showing 50mm+ for Hotham
Hoping for a little rain here...
Might be a "little".
Would help put the fires out.
That's what I'm hoping.
Of course the associated TS risk might create more fires on Friday.
Not good, can just imagine a large storm... I am wondering where all the smoke is coming from at the moment (a lot of smoke haze around here) guessing from a long way away.
It is getting thicker, I can't see 1 km!
Same here in Upper Yarra Valley. I suspect it's from the Thomson/Glenmaggie fire or control line fires associated with it. Should have left the windows closed, house full of smoke now!
Got called out this morning because of it - allegedly smoke from Woods Point Rd. Went up there - a lot of smoke pouring over a saddle from Glenmaggie. Called a false alarm and went home.
Around Feb 1 could have a solid cold change coming through. Any takers for an opinion on that?
Just a little bit of rain forecast this weekend for South East QLD and northern NSW.
It would be nice to see that down here. Or at least some of it.
Smokey as hell at Venus Bay.
Yeah cc I don't see much more than 5 or 10mm in that front coming through vic atm. Can you?
In 92 I think I remember driving through floods in qld and bushfires in nsw and vic on the drive from whitsunday coast to melb
Not much in it. Perhaps 5mm if we're lucky in Melbourne.
Cool change has rored through the coast. Blowing 25kts here in Venus Bay.
Tanks are empty
This is the view of the change at #5 Venus Bay
^^ Brilliant pic!
Stratocumulus radiatus !
Raining in Narby
About 20 min after that photo, the water went white with the onshore breeze.
And to be perfectly accurate it is a good example of "Stratocumulus stratiformis radiatus"
The stratiformis species is appropriate as it is uniform roll like in appearance and the radiatus variety is pretty clear as it extends to the horizons!
hasnt been a drop of rain or a breath of wind in brunswick for an hour
Nice shot CC.
Rained for about 10 minutes at VB.
Sun back out, winds easing off.
Perfect weather here over the last week, not a cloud in the sky ... cha CHING! http://www.pvoutput.org/list.jsp?userid=1705
and it is going to continue!
Nice pic CC, stopped raining here and we have a blue sky.
The BOM are forecasting possible snow above 1700m Friday 1 Feb atm.
The media are just shit when it comes to weather. They are onto potential threat of flooding in S QLD but have hardly mentions the flood watches out for major flooding in just about every main river north of Sydney. They will probably pick it up in a couple of days then run stories of people saying "it just came out of nowhere?".
Well, that's a change. Normally the slightest incident in NSW makes national headlines, where it has to be close to disaster in other states for that news to crack it. National news is very Sydney/NSW centric.
Looking impressive for the east coast.
We've just had about 50mm in the last hour at Dubbo!! After didly squat for about 2 months.
And still thumping down. This after a spat the dummy and turned the sprinkler on at 7pm tonight. Was getting frustrated after several days where storms seemed to be all around us without us getting any rain.
BOM seasonal forecasts are out for Feb- April
Temp charts are looking good for the South East.
You have to read between the lines with the rainfall forecasts. Some would say a classic example of institutional bias driving the summary.
Sorry too much coding to post the charts here.
In a nutshell all looking very normal - there might be rain - there might be dry days - might be cool temps - might be some warm ones.
Maybe in a few weeks they might care to recast the forecasts based on new data points.
Also most GFS runs are pointing to another dose of minty around the 9th of Feb.
A possible dusting for the high mountains?
