Hey, we're heading down in August, and are looking at lessons in Smiggins. Just wondering what access is like between the two spots if the lifts aren't working? We're going in a 4wd, so can even drive up to Perisher after a lesson, if that wouldn't be a hassle parking at 11am after a lesson?

We've got a Mitsubishi Delica, so dont mind the snow driving with kit.

To leave a car park in Smiggs to get a car park at Perisher in August will be folly.

As per previous, free shuttle bus.

It's fun, meet new friends, relax and enjoy the ride, i can recommend it.

You'll park close to the snow at smiggs.
At Perisher you'll park at least a km down the road at 11am . Potentially beyond smiggs.

The bus is easiest when you cant/don't want to ski between the 2. Runs about every 10 mins from about 830am.

Cool thanks, yeah I thought moving the car might be a bad idea! We will park at Smiggins, get our lessons there, then go exploring after.

I know you can't ski across from Smiggins to Perisher at the moment, does anyone know if they are working to have it open for the weekend when the NSW school holidays start?

Yeah, no snow making on inter-links between resorts so they have to wait for the real stuff.

The Link T needs a fair bit of snow to fill some low spots so I don’t see it opening any time soon. When I last was at Smiggins a few days ago it wasn’t close. Needs at least 30cm more, probably realistically 50cm. They will prioritise getting the duplex open and having more than one or two runs off the triple chair open before they push a whole lot of snow over to the Link T I’d say.

They actually had Piper and Telemark groomed and packed and ready to open for the opening weekend - before it r**ned and washed them out, but the packed areas, ie the lift lines themselves, have held a fair bit of snow.

As posted in previous seasons, if the Duplex is open to the top and Piper/Telemark are open (or at least packed and skiable) you can get over to Perisher easy enough with a short hike up from the Duplex, then traverse around.

The Duplex was only barely/semi covered a few days ago so the small amount of snow since would have only really been enough to hide the grass (temporarily), definitely not enough to groom and try to squeeze into any sort of base that would last the season. If they open with too little snow they just end up with a dirty base that melts fast later in the season, or nothing frozen underneath the surface skiing layer at all.

In the end we drove up to Perisher from Smiggins and found a parking spot right away. Mid week skiing rules!

Yep, people leave all throughout the day so it's certainly possible to take a vacated spot! :)

Although they find new best friends quickly in there and disappear with them accordingly.
