We had a couple of days in Dubai over the weekend so decided to go to the indoor ski centre for a giggle.

Base depth - probably a foot or two
Cover - firm manmade, not icy as it never gets above zero
Lift system - one ultra slow chair, one magic carpet, two pomas
Runs - 2 in reality, one easy blue, one graded black but that's based on about 5 metres where it gets a little steeper on one side. Both about 300 or so metres long.

Good fun, $80 per person for 2 hours or $120 for a full day and includes ski, boot and clothing hire but BYO gloves, goggles and helmet or beanie. Considering the price of a lot of things in Dubai (notably booze) it's relatively cheap. We spent about 3 or 4 hours there but you do get bored with doing the same 300 metre run over and over. Still, the queues are all but non existent so you can get a lot of laps in.

LOL clear, -1 degrees constantly. As opposed to outside, high 20's and sand haze.

Went to Dubai for a Wedding a few years ago and the Bucks party consisted of indoor snow skiing in the morning and water park at Atlantis in the afternoon. It was a bit surreal and over the top but that's Dubai I guess.

At full size its a bit of fun, drop in by the concrete wall is a bit different and takes some getting used to.
Mountain goats hang out behind the complex. Not bad for a surf LOL

Thievery corporation nice, but not a place I'd be going out of my way for.

I used to go there a bit when I lived in Dubai. Dinner in the mall followed by a late ski session around 10pm when we had the whole place to ourselves. My wife had her first ever snowboard there too. Actually it was the only skiing I did during the 4 years I was in the UAE

I found that my speed limiting factor was my eyes. Cause I wasn't wearing goggles, my eyes started watering as soon as I picked up the pace a bit

Despite my assertions that I wouldn't be interested in having a ski here, I ended up spending about 90 minutes skiing here during our return leg back home.
I went to the Mall of Emirates to have a look and maybe do a little shopping. Not really having any real desire to ski here I caved and had a ski with my son. It was fun, especially since it was 38 degrees outside and about -4 inside.
We bought some cheap glove for about 8 AED. The rest was hired.
I don't think I've worn hire boots or skis for at least 16 years.....They sucked big time. I'm glad I did it but probably never again.

Skied it. Had fun. THE BIG QUESTION IS THIS.....

Do you count it on your list of resorts skied? And if so, can u count it as having skied in Asia cos I've not done Japow yet, but have done all other continents bar Africa and Antarctica. Help!

LOL Count it in any way that gives you pleasure.
I thought the idea was to have as many happy days, and diverse experiences as possible.

I have not yet skied Dubai.
    One day.

I'm counting it, no reason why you shouldn't. It's Asia, it's skiing. Though I've already skied in Japan so I'm not fudging on a continent.

True true LMB, it's not about lists or tallies or ticking boxes or whatever. I'm not really into that sort of thing at all. Still wondering tho... :gives:

    Pfft!
    Enjoy the tallies!
It's a personal record of all the great days.
What I meant was record it any way you like. It all counts. It's ALL good.
    I'd count it!

Anyone got a problem with that, then it's them that needs to remove the stick

They are planning one that meets the standards to run world cup racing. I do say planning. I believe if it gets up, it will run around the outside of a building.
Funnily enough, my child is booked to do some slalom training for a week at ski dubai next year. A lot of people go pffft, but in reality, its a great slope for getting lots of laps in, and working on slalom technique.
And a great way for mum, who is pretty much a non skier to get some mother daughter time on a "ski" holiday :)
