    Hi everyone,

So this is my first post! I haven't been able to find much info so I thought I'd throw a couple of my questions out in this forum as the Q&A section has been decommissioned.

Earlier this year I applied with Mt Buller Ski & Snowboard school as an Uncertified Ski instructor. I was selected to proceed to the interview stage in June 2014 for the upcoming season (which I'm really looking forward to, I could only wish the season would come sooner!).

I was wondering if anyone could give me any tips or hints for this type of interview?

What should I expect on the day?
What kind of questions are asked?
What specific qualities do they look for in new instructors?

I've been skiing for around 20+ years especially in my primary and high school years (each year I was apart of the school race squad). Currently I work in insurance with a finance background of 8+ years working across manly levels in varied roles.

Currently I am uncertified, if I am successful I take the APSI Level 1 as apart of the on boarding process.

Thanks for any help or advice you can provide.
    Allan

They can teach people with people skills how to teach skiing. They can't necessarily do the reverse.

    Emphasise your customer service background.

I have also got an interview there, so I am in the same boat. I started this thread in snow talk, and I took away from it that if you are passionate about snow and have a good customer service attitude, ie helpful, friendly etc, they can teach you the rest.

Just remember to relax, we're not curing cancer here. We're teaching people how to slide down hills with sticks on their feet.

Considering the forecast, it's time to ask, what happens if there is no snow?

    No snow = no work.

But you still have to pay the rent/board etc.

No lessons no work, priority certainly goes to senior instructors too, there ain't no sharing.

Can't see why not? They don't give a shit if you sit up there and don't get work but will stress out at the first second they run out of instructors and aren't making money. It don't cost them to have you sitting around waiting.

I suppose it will depend on taking my word for it in terms of skiing ability, since there won't be any snow to test it on. And as a new instructor, the email they gave says I would actually start teaching until the first weekend of the school holidays, and if buller doesn't even have man made by the 28th of June they have bigger problems to worry about than me. Part time also helps, since I still have a job in Melbourne if there is no work.
