    I received an email from a young person asking about lockers at Friday Flat;

    Does anyone know the answer to this? (I don't)

    Yes.....locking ski racks available. Plus traditional school-type lockers (which probably fit 2 pairs of boots for an idea of size).
    Cost: I think it is somewhere round $5-$8 each per day?
    Booking: dont think there is a book ahead option. But there are loads of them and even on the busiest days of the season they are highly likely to have some available.

    You can just get one at the retail counter at FF shop/hire.

    I hired a boot locker there recently. $13 + $5.00 key deposit from memory. Deposit can ONLY be refunded to a CC/Debit Card, not in cash.

    Once I left boots in overnight at Friday Flat. They were cold and horrible and damp the next day and really hard to get on.

    Never again

    Make sure you get a locker that is as high up as possible. The top shelves are the best but the second row is not too bad. Any lower than that is terrible for drying boots.

    Take the inners out and with you to dry out/warm up in your accommodation (also stick them in front of the car heater on your drive in the morning), then put them back in the boots when you get to the hill.

    the shells get stiffer when left in the cold?

    We struggled with stiff shells just walking from accommodation to the hill in Canada when the air temp was around -15C.

    Ended up warming them under the hand blower in the toilets LOL

    My boots are definitely easier to manage when the shells have had some warmth. Haven't had any problems when I've used the Friday Flat lockers but haven't had a bottom row locker so I think @Townsend is on to something.

    I have some rubber gizmos that clip onto the bottom of the ski boots - they're called Tank Tracks or something like that. They give really good traction, soften the foot landings and save wear and tear on the toe and heel pieces. I just walk back to the lodge in them.

    The one time I do envy snowboarders - sensible shoes!
