I remember being in Perisher one "opening" weekend a few years ago doing some last minute work on a lodge. No snow, of course. My lasting memory is drinking Jax dry of red wine. Not a huge feat as they only had one bottle. Even Perisher had not stocked the bar for "opening" weekend.

    Hopefully this will happen
Opening Long Week End of the 1993 season at Falls Creek.
On the Friday no snow at all and totally green to this on Sunday.
Most of my memories of my first ski season back in Oz was a good amount of rain every weekend and followed by snow for the last day or so.
And many thanks to the CUB girls in their tight pants that were walking around the resort giving away Carlton Coldies.
I couldn't even walk to work without someone shoving a beer in front of me.

OK.....I am an optimist but....we are due an early season. I know Perisher will pump out as much man-made as they possibly can but......I will be hanging out there from the 1st of June and I will slide up and down one single crystal of snow, if that is all that is available.
I'm hoping that all lifts will be open but I'm happy to build my Mitchell stats early. The Magic Carpet is my friend (in troubled times) but I'll ditch 'em for a crack at Mt P any time.
    I reckon, 15th June, VM's a'plenty. :)

Perhaps if we offer Astros pants up as a burnt sacrifice to the snow gods it will snow early.

But the last two years have been sadly brown.
We are indeed due an early start. But I'm not sure if I'll bother from Perth for the Après only this year.

    Yeah she served me well.
Myself and a mate drove her over from Perth on a 2 month ?? odyssey, around the south coast of W.A, around S.A and Vic and finally drove over the back way from Omeo, a week or so before the season started.

We were at Perisher a few years back for the opening weekend. I think it was the first year the freedom passes were used?? and you could ski from mid station, The lift queues were horrendous and their main problem was they didn't have the staff? to open happy valley, pretty valley and the other T-Bars, but the snow was great. Happy Valley did eventually open on Sunday and eased the pressure slightly.

One year I was first paying customer on Snowgums at Thredbo (first chair to open that year) on opening weekend. Another year at PB opening weekend I got on Canberra tele apparently. I think it was the year the V8 opened.

It's been a while since I did an opening weekend. Pre child I'd head down maybe every second year. Too excited to wait, with low expectations, but hoping for some snow to ski on regardless. It's a long trip from Sydney though with a 4 year old in tow. Long boozing days and wandering aimlessly through ski shops have much less attraction!

I always go opening weekend - snow, hail or shine.

Usually I get to escape the office early because its the long weekend - my work soon tire of the early mark requests by July!

It's not about that I cannot be bothered LOL I can only organise that much time leaving work early or not being on call. Also, my financial commitments only allow me certain numbers of trips. I am on a budget, and if I want to enjoy snowy trips in July and August, Spetember, I cannot have everything. Even though I have the season pass, there is other spending which I just cannot justify if there is a minimal snow.
I am also supporting my family and trying to save, lots of things to consider. Just spent $1000 on flights to Japan, $600 on season pass, need new bindings. Have to make wise choices. Everyone's situation is different :nerd::cry:
