Perhaps they think they may be able to open more than FV? And ticket price will be dependant upon lifts. Pretty sure Freedom passes have been valid on the charity days in the past.

Perisher 2015 ski season dates are Saturday, June 6 through Monday, October 5, 2015. Dates are subject to change.

we've decided to open our 2015 Snow Season early on Friday 5 June.

I think it's safe to say the Freedom Pass will be valid on Friday.

Season passes have worked in the past when they have opened early, so can’t see why it would be different this year.

Will definitely be down for a few hot chocolates Marshmallows and schooners in the sun, and maybe a run or two as well :)

The only things I assume that will be shut are the Pub. Mid station etc.
The perisher owned food and beverage places should be open.

This from Hotham e news and just so happens as I predicted a week ago on snow predictions.

LIFTS WILL TURN ON OPENING WEEKEND!
    Winter has arrived at Hotham!
We've had 20cm of natural snow Sunday night and snow guns have been blazing all week. Sub zero temperatures forecast for the next few days means we're set to have runs open and lifts turning for opening weekend!
Some locals couldn't wait and got some first turns in yesterday morning shown in these pics above taken by Karl Gray.
Stay tuned to hotham.com.au as we announce what lifts will be open and when.

There are music events in Mid Station during the day, so it'll probably be open.

I'd be up for a Mid Station pie with mash and gravy on Friday if they're open.
Ski to mid, sightseeing to the top......would be worth opening, if they can pull it together in time.

That Pub is part of the Perisher Manor and I do not believe it is owned by Perisher Resort, so unless it has arranged staff for Friday I doubt it will be open. But I may be wrong.

Does anyone remember what the opening timeline was last year? I feel like they have enough natural and man made snow to open happy valley (if they can push around enough to cover the tbar track) and towers on mt p. Since those areas don't require large numbers of extra staff like blue cow, is there anything stopping them that I havent thought of?

Night skiing Saturday night too, from fb...

After 30cm of fresh snow and perfect snowmaking conditions, we've decided to open our 2015 Snow Season early on Friday 5 June. The Village 8 Express Chairlift and a beginner Skier Conveyor on Front Valley will offer the first runs of the season from Friday morning.

On Saturday morning the Perisher Quad Express will open to Mid Station for skiers and boarders, and will continue to the top of Perisher Valley for foot passengers looking to check out the beautiful sights. Further lifts may open following forecast excellent snowmaking conditions in the coming days. We've also got free night skiing and fireworks on Saturday evening from 5.45pm to 8pm with any valid ticket or four day Peak Festival Pass, so come and experience Perisher under lights this weekend!

CEO Peter Brulisauer says, "We are very excited to be able to provide our guests with some great skiing and boarding options for the opening weekend. Early season snowfalls and our extensive snowmaking system have allowed us to prepare Perisher for a fantastic start to the season".

Perisher Snowsports School Director Tina Burford says, "We have great variety of flexible lesson choices and a dedicated team of professional instructors ready to go for winter 2015. With all this snow and amazing snowmaking we are super excited about the season that is about to kick off ".

For all of you who are keen to get jumping and sliding, the PlayStation Slopestyle Terrain Park will be up and running for Friday's opening with a great range of features accessed from the Village 8 Express.

It doesn't stop there... Australia's coolest music Festival, the Peak Festival will provide the weekend's entertainment in eight venues around the resort featuring 35 artists and over 120 performances. It's the perfect way to celebrate the new winter.

    We'll see you here soon...

Jindy still looks incredible. Snow all around on lower hills, a few patches still around town. Freezing cold though. Road still open today to Spencers Creek. Will be interested to see if creek if fully frozen over. Has not been such since 2012. Heaps of gear still left at Aldi in Cooma. Friday will be a blast. FV looks amazing.

    I agree!

I think the Cow will open, Sunday!

They like being first - and have done for the last few years.

With Thredbo also opening Friday they can't claim that this year.

So 'most lifts' or 'most terrain' will be their aim!

They'll be going for the "with the opening of the iconic Towers and Zalis runs" on the snow report this weekend without question IMO. Looking at the size of the whales I still think the only thing that will spoil the party is staffing levels.

If they manage to pull it off this weekend it'd be the best season opening in a long time. While Vail don't own Perisher yet, I would be surprised if some senior management there weren't pushing for such an outcome as it'd be fantastic press/PR.

P.S: The cats on FV this morning look cool without their tillers attached. In serious bulk snow moving mode!

Ok, my situation looks bleak  The last person who could help is working the afternoon somewhere else, and even if I did long day shift and rid of the call, I could not guarantee I finish before 7-8 pm. And that'd mean working from 0630 am - 1900
Should have planned it properly as Ozgirl suggested so many times! :headbang:

    Anyway, see you all @Ozgirl @Astro66 @DidSurfNowSki @hipo on 26/27th June?

I never went down there for the opening weekend. However, the 'racing the first lift with a group of friend', and Astro making a quick dash down there which I could join swayed me, because I wouldn't stay until Monday anyway. Too late
At least things are sorted at work from now on.

Just gave a lift back to town to someone who works at Blue Cow, they said the Cow will open next Friday - with all main lifts expected to open at that time - whether that includes the Ridge remains to be seen - though I suspect Roller Coaster will be running nice and fast, with access from the mid point down from Terminal lower station.

Meanwhile, Perisher looks amazing. Front Valley is just big blanket of snow. Should be a great weekend - and next week will be perfect for beginners wanting a cheap week to learn on. Place will be empty after lunch on Monday.

Oh yer - and spencers creek at the bridge is frozen solid - You could walk on it. But I did not risk it. There is still snow around Jindy this afternoon. Steve at Eyre Cafe said he expects the road will stay open to SC all weekend. He is open Friday, but then closed until Eyre opens. The Pub was open - cash only. The Man from Snow pub was open and looking very nice on the front deck. Mid will be fully operational on Saturday. As to what time the V8 opens tomorrow - sorry but that's an "operational matter" so not tellin'. But it sure ain't 9am ;)

Will post some photos from around Perisher today once I do my day job.

Perisher now advertising 11 lifts opening Saturday. They haven't nominated which ones though, but that seems a great effort.

This was posted on their website... which I must say is a pretty disappointing selection, could be a good marketing idea though, setting up 49 ski carpets in a row in the beginner area, the lift count would look excellent!

    • Perisher Express Quad to Mid Station
    • Mitchell T-Bar
    • Sturt T-Bar
    • Tom Thumb JBar

*crosses finger for fresh powder bashing off the North Perisher T*

Of course by powder bashing I mean rock bashing.

I'm guessing the iconic Towers and Zalis will make their debut. Keep an eye on the cams tomorrow, if that's going to happen you'll see padding start going up on lift towers and groomers out and about.

Could happen but all that padding takes a while to put up (have had to do it before), and unless they have a ton mountain staff/ski patrol waiting around to do it, it might be mid next week before its up. Although happy to be proved wrong...

I agree, I've said a couple of times that staffing is going to be the issue (i.e. Blue Cow needs more train drivers, more ski patrol, more lifties, more hospitality staff, more grooming staff and so on). It sounds so simple in the context of just saying "Zalis", I don't think a lot of people appreciate the amount of work required to actually get areas open.
