As a SkiTube devotee I thought it might be helpful to create a new thread for issues and discussion with the Tube in 2020.

(Let's face it - masks are advisable at all times on the skitube)

Always get a seat facing forwards on the uphill, and backwards on the downhill.

Also, Coronavirus can't survive at the temperatures found in a tiny vat of boiling oil, so load up on health circles at the Perisher platform.

    https://www.perisher.com.au/plan-your-trip/new-to-perisher/covid19-update

Yes. Perisher’s Skitube will be operating at reduced capacity with amended timetables. Guests must purchase their Skitube tickets online and in advance, as no on-the-day purchasing will be available. Skitube guests carrying luggage for overnight stays will be required to travel outside of peak operating periods.

Depending on further easing of physical distancing guidelines a Skitube season pass may be offered for sale during the season.
    <<

So for now it's pre-book up to night before until further notice.

I suspect a season pass will be offered by apx mid July. Price will be between 105 and 295.

My solution for now will be to ditch my half share in a season locker at PV station. apx $230 plus early pass purchase at $95 - refunded and $25 also back on the pass protection - gives a Tube single ride budget of $340 - plus apx $5 in petrol savings per trip. That's an easy 12 rides on Tube on snowy days and - even weekends might be worth it on occasion for a late start and late finish.

not on sale yet. 15th is when they switch it all on again at the store.

I suspect train sales also won't open until the 23rd when you can book on the hill

I wonder how 'restricted' is it going to be? I have on snow weekend accomm booked for last weekend of school hols. I have to make final decision to pay or cancel the booking by this Fri. Happy now with Epic pass we will have tkts for the hill, but no certainty re Skitube tkts.
(I've never driven to Perisher and never want to!)
Hotel also being painful saying they won't let you leave luggage there after checkout. Does anyone have alternate 'left luggage' suggestions at the terminal?
It's all a big juggle, but hoping it all falls into place!

    1. Keep your gear in soft bags and hire a locker at Perisher centre if available this season ( noting luggage restrictions on downhill trains after 3 pm)
2 check if Hans oversnow will accept left luggage.
    3. Take your luggage down hill early on the tube to Bullocks flat and store in car for the day, return up hill by train
4 Collect car from Bullocks early am and drive up back to Perisher and load luggage at checkout time, park at Perisher for day (no overnight parking at Perisher) and then leave at your convenience.
    5. Leave at checkout time with luggage because it is just all too hard.

Hopefully the train gets sorted soon. $100 for a 5 return trip pass - that auto converts to season pass if operations change would separate me of another $100 in a flash.

I, like many others am eagerly waiting for the announcement of Skitube prices. Accommodation has been booked in Jindabyne for a 5 day trip in September, and hubby is not keen on driving up to Perisher each day. I have a sneaking suspicion that fuel + NP pass + chain hire is going to be cheaper than using the Skitube for 5 days for four people.

No you’re not. I reckon they’re not going to release prices until everyone commits to the EPIC pass first. A bit scummy if that is the cases.

From what I have heard ski tube will only be for staff and those with accommodation. But like everything else this season, that may change.

In terms of Covid-19 time August is a long way away. Things may change by then.

Really hard when you have researched, planned, booked and then all the bits are thrown in the air.

The main thread now has details of the luggage restrictions so it sounds like the Tube is available for the punters.

So, with Skitube pricing info: for a return ticket up on Fri a.m. and back Sun p.m., after 4th July - do I get two day tkts at Pass Holder rate $29 x 2? What is the Lodge return tkt for $116?

$29 add on for epic pass holder per day. $116 for return ticket only usually valid for a week. What sort of lift ticket do you have?

I would expect the lodge return ticket is for people with accommodation, going up on the day you arrive and down on the day you leave.

That's what I'm doing - weekend on-snow accommodation, so up Friday & back down Sunday. But why would I pay $116 when I could get two one-day discounted tkts for $58?

Just have your story straight when the don't let you through the turnstile at bullocks, because you didn't clock off on the Friday and clock on on the Sunday and only went one way back down. Tell them you went home with "a friend" you met on the ski field.

So, you aren't supposed to buy two day tickets?
Why the punitive cost of the 'overnight stay' ticket?
Other years I have added the Ski tube to the Epic pass, but can't do that this year!

I don't know whether you can or can't, hence have a plausible story ready. If you get away with it great, let me know, as I will then do the same at the end of July when I'm up for a week.

    Oh.
So, I'll have to get the $116 ticket, or else hope I can spin a good yarn at Bullocks as to why I didn't 'scan in' on my way up the hill that morning?
And if course, yet to be able to buy said tickets, or know for certain I can get up and back on the days I want.....o_O

Lodge return sounds like a different name for their "open return" ticket - essentially allows you to go up on one day and return on another. Great under normal circumstances, as it saves versus two daily return tickets.

If you have an Epic Australia Pass, however, I see no reason to not just grab two pass holder day tickets, one at each end of the trip.

I think some of this is probably to lock in and guarantee lodge people access tickets. If social distancing restrictions remain, there is a high likelihood the tube will sell out, particularly peak season weekends.

They would mind if you tried just adding on Friday and using it to return Sunday. Which I think someone was suggesting. It’s not a return ticket. It’s access to tube for the day. You can ride up and down as many times as you like that day, or none.

However, the couple of times I did daily add ons in previous years, the ticket never scanned and the guys just opened the gates for me anyway. Might be more vigilant this year.

I think Val was planning to buy 2 tickets, one for Friday and one for Sunday. Cheaper to do that than the Lodge return.

If it works, I'll look at that for end of July. $24*3 up and $24*3 down is so much more palatable than $110*3

I’m thinking for folk in lodges with luggage they may
it might be a “luggage surcharge” or some shite like that. So if you’re on a standard ticket with luggage they may ping you.

It’s really no different to what it’s always been. They’ve always had an open return that costs more for people staying on the hill for more than an overnight. The skitube add on for pass holders still the same. I stayed for 4 nights at PV last year, bought an add on for arrival day and one for departure. Nothing has changed apart from no season pass and no snow players.
