I really did not expect Perisher to be mandating the playing of 'Twister' during these pandemic times.
Well on Sunday there were a lot of people not following the correct seating procedure. People that "live together" would sit on one side while other random people sat on the other of the 4x4 seating area. Also there's signage saying that they recommend face masks be worn, but none are actually provided!
Thanks Nightskywatcher, the Perisher website is unfit for purpose. Charlotte Pass is a gem but the logistics of getting there are diabolical, 'all care but no responsibility', if any leg of the journey from multiple competing suppliers is delayed we'll be snowshoeing to Charlotte Pass. It's easier, more reliable and less stressful to book into Nozawa Onsen.
This year is just one of those years you feel as thought you will want to forget, but never will. Blame the pandemic more than the individual operators, they are trying to do in 6 weeks what takes most organisations 6-12 months.
Because I like the idea of travelling with multiple coloured, extremely complicated dot indicated seating arrangements ...does anyone know what sort of Ski tube ticket you need to purchase if you don't have a resort lift ticket (i.e having crossed to the dark side of the X Country nordic trails), and want a day return, rather than the $116 2 week open return? The website is *somewhat* opaque....
I wouldn't worry, I don't think you'll have any problem getting Skitube once the product is put on sale for those dates.
Thanks @chicski & @GlenH Driving it may have to be.... Part of the reason for crossing to the dark side is being an impecunious muso & academic...Can *just* afford the yearly NPWS car pass & the chains as fuelling *long term investment* in the next aspect of being snow country addicted...Post the school hols methinks...
Does anyone know of a bar open 24/7 at Perisher? We could get a valet car service to drive us up on Saturday afternoon... [UPDATE] Another thread on the Charlottes Forum suggests weekend valet drop off on Sunday morning before 11am is not feasible.
I'm not an Epic Pass holder, I'm going to Charlotte Pass, I just want ski tube open return for Sun Aug 2nd. Calendar is still grayed out for those dates. [UPDATE] cleared cache and cookies on website, calendar still greyed out for 2nd Aug.
They havent released bookings that far ahead. They are only doing 1 week at a time at the moment. Hence only can book up to 19th July.
My mistake, I made an assumption that he wanted tickets for today, I recall reading that you can’t buy tickets for the same day.
Thanks NightSkyWatcher. After the Victorian cancellation I can understand why they might do that. Not a good start to their new purchase. So looks like I try again on the 27th.
It wasnt in response to anything done in Vic. This is the way it has been since opening in June. The have only allowed bookings 1 week ahead on the Skitube. I expect the week of the 20th will come up in the next 24hrs
Goalposts moved again! First train not until 9.45 and no early morning luggage transport window. No opportunity to ski first a.m of an overnight stay trip with this without hellish logistic nightmares of up the hill sans luggage then back down and up again end of the day. When did the timetable change? When I looked at it a few days ago early a.m. trains could take luggage.
Incorrect! you didnt select tomorrows date. By default, it starts showing from your current time on your current date.
Ok! Thanks for that, but early luggage wnndow now impossibly early when traveling from Canberra. Last time I checked 8 a.m was last train you could get with bags?
Looks like we will have to be creative with packing boot & skibags & 'day back packs'.... Pointless restrictions. Covid-19 is not on luggage gathered around peoples' feet in the socially distanced carriage! No need for luggage restrictions at all when numbers of peeps on the carriage are capped.
Luggage travel restrictions have always been there. Its a platform/train congestion thing they are trying to manage. And yes, i understand that at the moment there is less congestion due to spacing restrictions, but you are pushing a wheelbarrow full of concrete up a front valley.
Cought the last 'luggage allowed' 7.30 or 8 many times. It's the shifting sands changes this year that are doing my head in. Of course I know why that is so, but some changes - e.g moving the last train time back by an hour that
Depends how much 'luggage' you have. The Perisher timetable says: No luggage permitted (except for skis, snowboards, boot bags, hand held day use luggage such as back packs etc) We're seasoned ex-backpackers in our fully catered club lodge. We've never been stopped on 'no luggage trains' with a backpack, boot bag, ski bag and day bag each.
Ian if you get stuck, PM me and I can probably help drive you up and bring you back from Perisher. I will just factor in skiing around the nordic trails or head out for a part day on skins.
Just noticed this, presumably because of the lack of party animals this year: **Important Update: From Monday 13 July the last train service uphill from Bullocks Flat to Perisher will depart at 10:00pm. The last train service downhill from Perisher to Bullocks Flat will depart at 10:32pm. From Monday 13 July trains will operate on an hourly basis on request between Bullocks Flat and Perisher Valley from 8:00pm to 10:00pm. Train requests may be made in person at Bullocks Flat or by courtesy phone from Perisher Valley Skitube Terminal.
Just curious, will there ever be a risk of not getting skitube tickets? Particularly for EAP holders?
Is anyone finding that they miss the train they aim for due to crowds / queuing, or can you still pretty much choose your time? (apart from pre-purchasing the ticket the day prior).
Arrived 7.30 a.m. yesterday (Fri) & straight on. Lots of space. Bullock flats Terminal very empty.... never seen it so quiet, but not sure if weekend will be busier.
Only seasonal lockers on offer through website, but I seem to recall a post about lockers on the main Perisher thread from a few days ago.
We travelled up during no-luggage a.m. period but stuff for two night stay fitted into 'compliant' backpacks and bootbags and we were dressed in our ski gear. Thanks for the tip Ian.
So now when you click the Ski Tube option all you get is: "Sorry, there are not any avaliable dates for this product"
