    saw South Georgia on a doco, seems to have big mountains and some tours head there.

    Anyone skied it?

    We were fortunate to visit Sth Georgia about 10 years ago and afterwards I looked into tours that offered skiing. Very tempting but rather pricey. I recall permits are required and quite difficult to obtain which no doubt adds to the cost.

    Aurora offer a few options;

    We had 3 days around the Island and weather was never completely clear, you'd really hope for a fine spell if booked to ski.

    Amazing place with plenty of scenery, mountains, wildlife and history.

    That's a great view of Grytviken. South Georgia has always held a fascination for me and I'm almost tempted to emulate sly_karma and start up a Today's fact about Canada The Falklands and South Georgia thread.

    I’m doing the iceaxe expedition this November, but it goes straight down to the Antarctic peninsula. Have bought nice map of the same, and there’s some big mountains there too, some over 2000m rising from sea level
