A toddle around the Smiggin Holes XC loop for a change. For some reason the photos are not in order.

Looking back towards Mt Piper and Blue Cow. Extensive fencing which helps maintain snow cover.

As you go around the loop look outwards. Inwards there are power lines and a Perisher junkyard.

Sign a Mt Piper Trail. Small white sign with blue writing is incorrect, trails are not groomed any more, touring skis or snowshoes are okay now.

Coastal suburban boonies.
That loopy bit east of Mt Piper is really pretty country, winter or summer. There is a service trail that heads off where Prussian Creek is crossed by the road. It is not, for reasons that perplex me, a marked track but it is worth spending an hour or two following it.

Good on you. Bet it was quiet out there, see anyone? There is enough cover (just) to do these ‘alternative’ trails. Above Sponors around the Plains of Heaven can be good also, no pole lines though. The trail off the end of the 10 k (Thompson’s Plain?) to Dainers may be ok too. I don’t think the smiggins trails have
been groomed for years, not in the current $80k contract I suppose. Nice to see the porcupine betts loop groomed though.
